Daniel I can't speak as regards the numbering however when it comes to unusual trains movements be aware that the forum rules state: This forum does not actively encourage the posting of the timings for unusual train movements for the following reasons:- The information is usually available only within documents marked 'for internal use only'
- The timings can never be guaranteed - in fact these sort of movements often don't happen at the times published, if at all
- Making the details of such movements public could cause issues with unplanned overcrowding at stations or other locations
I'm saying this not be be officious, but for some fairly common sense reasons... Speaking personally, I have travelled on a C-stock as far as Elm Park before - it obviously was on its way to Upminster, however had been kept in service.

A move like this was probably an emergency, locally-arranged, ad-hoc arrangement between Hammersmith and Upminster depots, Barking and Upminster cabins, the District Line Controller and a spare District Line T/Op. As such there would have been no STN issued or special set number allocated. Similar 'turning' moves can operate via High St Ken and Gloucester Road for battery locos, again just facilitated off-the-cuff and not advertisable in advance, officially or otherwise.

Whilst 7xx numbers are the norm for timetabled stock movements, ad-hoc movements can be any number the controller picks (as long as it doesn't have an 8 or 9 in it). 66 is only used on the District on Sundays for a D stock working, but is otherwise available. One other point though - did you see this number on the back of the train? If so, it cannot be relied upon - only the number on the front counts!

Yes the last one's should always be correct both ends.....but what if it's a Circle that's been reformed during in the day, for example?
