One of the new S stock trains was named "Tim O'Toole CBE" at the Old Dalby test track in March.

I believe one of the Metronet / GBRf Class 66 Locomotives was officially named Gwyneth Dunwoody.

It makes a change from some of the corporately inspired 'names' that adorn much of the mainline diesel fleet these days. Personally, I have always thought that 'Tigger' would be a good name for a 66..... 'Coz bouncin's what Tiggers do best!'.

But "the most wonderful thing about Tiggers is that [there's] only one", and there is darn sight more than one Class 66 loco!

And don't I know it! They are the 'Grey Squirrel' of the railway. An American invader that in no time at all has pushed the indigeonous and superior native species to the brink of extinction!

So, a three foot long metal name plate is an acceptable deviation from corporate identity, but a tiny met crest on the S8s isnt?

Why was Tim O'Toole chosen? I agree with you too Ben.

But they probably would say that the name is to do with the company, not the line. Anyway, I wouldn't put Metropolitan line crests on S stock, as the S stock will make the Met just like any other tube line.

Im quite sure the met crest will appear on the 8 car trains. (WINK WINK, NUDGE NUDGE ). The toy 7 car trains? They are not so important.

Just because an S stock has one extra car and a few more seats does not make it more important. It's still an S stock, and I don't think the 8-car S stock deserve to have a Metropolitan line crest on them...

I don't think a little crest on a train is that important.. as for the Tim plaque on this train, I am sure it will be removed before it enters service

Why?
I'm no 'company man', but my view is that he's probably one of the best MD's LU has ever had - what's so wrong with naming a train after the bloke?

If the guy really deserves recognition then I'm all for it. As for 66 liveries, a 'Shed' is still a 'Shed' no matter what pretty collour adorns it!

Unless he has/had strong opinions against naming LU trains (I don't know), then I don't see what the fuss is about. He's done a good job, so why not recognise it?

Many of the Overgorund 313s have been named. A 1938 ts unit was named , Starlight Express, what other 'units' have been named in the past?
