Do they still have special trains on LU?
In my days on there, we used to have a special every December chartered by a school at Ealing Common to take the kids to Temple for their christmas concert. The train would run non-stop between the 2 points, reverse at Mansion House then run back in service to Ealing Broadway.
Other specials I've worked was the Bakerloo tour of the District and Met in 1972 which IIRS went to every outpost on those lines, including Shoreditch and Amersham.
I had to conduct the Met guard from Tower Hill to Aldgate East, joining the train at Gloucester Road. I managed to stay on for the rest of the journey and got a cab ride from Amersham to Baker Street! Harry the Hat was the Met DI for the amersham part of the journey.

Do they still have special trains on LU? In terms of tours, these days it's down to the Museum organise something, and that tends to be restricted to the 38ts or Sarah Siddons. School specials are no more - the only event specific specials that are now run are 'football trains'; these are extra trains that would otherwise be sat in the depot and are staffed by spare drivers (there are some duties within the roster for this purpose at many depots). Although they are primarily run for the purpose of moving football fans, they are actually available to any member of the public daft enough to board the train - to that end, the public are not made aware that the train is an extra added to the booked service.

Their used to be a special on the central that ran from Bethnal Green but I can't remember the destination, maybe Fairlop? (football maybe). I think it ran in service to Liverpool St, tipped out, empty to Bethnal Green and became a school special. IIR it only ran once a week and I don't know if there was a return booked (cue MRFS42).

Yes; I asked about it on the forum a while back..... Chanelling Colin: here - I asked the question back in 2007; since then the Central part of the TT library has grown somewhat. I'm fairly sure that the school trains ran in the weekday WTTs from WTT 20 (12/10/59) until WTT 33 (5/10/70).
