This evening (16th), I was at London Bridge around 6:50pm. I changed from the Northern to the Jubilee... or at least, tried to.
Got to the Jub SB platform to find it fairly packed and getting more so from people getting off the train. DMIs said 1 and 3 minutes for the next trains with minor delays on the whole line.
An announcement told us that there were "minor" delays on the Jubilee due to a person ill on a train further towards Stratford.
It became obvious that that train was being tipped out, which made me wonder how "minor" the delays were. Station staff came along and manually closed the doors of each carriage, but left the PEDs open.
Then, there was an announcement made informing us of the line being suspended from Canary Wharf to Stratford due to a faulty train.
A rather interesting announcement came over the PA - "This is a message for the train operator of the jubilee line train. Close the PEDs then do what you like mate!".
The PEDs closed and the train went out. Judging by the speed and the fact he was braking before he even left the platform, I'm guessing he was going to a siding.
There was another PA announcing that the service was now suspended from London Bridge to Stratford due to the same faulty train. Cue a lot of muttering and swearing from a lot of people on the platform.
This was followed pretty much immediately by another announcement by a different member of staff advising us of the same thing. He was a bit slow spoken, but brought a bit of amusement:
"We do have a working Northern line service if that helps to continue your journey........................................................................ That's about all I can think of to suggest!"
Which made us laugh!
The next train, 1 minute behind, came in but didn't immediately tip out. A few people boarded and after a moment the T/Op announced that the service was suspended.
So I went down to Borough on the Northern and picked up the C10 bus from there instead of Canada Water.
- Why terminate the service at London Bridge?
- Are there no further crossovers between there and Canary Wharf that could be used?
- Would it have been feasible to have the first empty train proceed to Canary Wharf and "push out" the defective train so the service could be resumed?
- And finally, if there's a defective train in one of the two platforms at Canary Wharf, would it not have been possible to set up some sort of limited service using the one working platform or would that have been too much trouble?
Got to Borough to find their service status notice board saying the Jubilee had normal service...
