I was on the Stratford branch on Tuesday. Pudding Mill Lane seems to have been extended from both sides.

There is one thing I do not understand. When they say they are going to add one extra carriage, what do they actually mean?? At the moment, the DLR train have 2 units coupled together which I would call 2 carriages. What are they really going to add.

They will couple 3 units together (they will not be putting an extra section into each unit).

When I first heard of 3-car trains, I thought the trains were getting shorter, counting 1 unit as 2 cars!

Pudding Mill Lane seems to have been extended from both sides. But they are only short platform extensions, and 3-car trains will also have to use SDO. This is because Pudding Mill Lane will have to be moved when crossrail is built.

Just finished travelling from Limehosue to Canary Wharf. The Eastbound platform has been completly extended with only the new staircase and lift to be finised. The Westbound platform has a way to go, but it's getting there. Actually after all the gripes I've had with DLR over the last year, I think the quality of the stations, new trains and general service will be excellent when complete. Just a shame it took Taylor Woodrow from Sept-April (rainy period) to put a roof on Limehouse Station!

Looks pretty much ready to go. From what I've read on London Reconnections and Transport Brifing, it should be open and in general service from June. Not long now then ;D

Westferry - Canary Wharf line (avoiding West India Quay) commissioned 11.05.09 but not yet in regular service.
From the same date trains stop at the three-car mark at Bank platform 10 (departure) and West India Quay platform 3 (southbound). West India Quay platform 2 (northbound) stopping mark also altered from same date but hardly noticeable difference.

When I first heard of 3-car trains, I thought the trains were getting shorter, counting 1 unit as 2 cars! The DLR has always treated each articulated unit as a single car - hnce the numbering as e.g. 99A and 99B for the two body sections.

I am fairly sure that the DLR still refer to their trains as "vehicles" (e.g. 1 vehicle, 2 vehicles etc) and not cars, units or whatever. I have seen official references to them as, for example, V85 or V22, etc.

I thought WIQ platform 2 was SB and platforms 3 and 4 were NB, and platform 1 was the one that was demolished so that the new flyunder could be built. If SB trains are stopping at the 3-car mark, does that mean the platform extensions there are finished?

Oops - you're right - senior moment!
It should read -
From the same date trains stop at the three-car mark at Bank platform 10 (departure) and West India Quay platform 2 (southbound). West India Quay platform 3 (northbound) stopping mark also altered from same date but hardly noticeable difference.
As far as I know the 'extensions' on 2 and 3 are finished, but I haven't seen anything about platform 4 yet.

How much work has been done so far on the platform extensions at Blackwall and East India?

Apart from Limehouse and Westferry, all platform extensions are almost finished now. They've not even started Beckton, Prince Regent or Custom House yet.

I can't remember if it's been mentioned on here or not, but at West India Quay southbound trains are using the new part of the platform at the southern end, with the original northern part marked as not yet in use except for access to the lift.

I think it is finished. I don't know why trains aren't using it yet (and when they do, it will only be in the peaks), but maybe it is only necessary once 3-car trains start running, as they will take longer to cross the old junction.

Yeh I think it's kind of weird that trains aren't using it yet. When I was at Canary Wharf, I came from got off from an ex Stratford train, and waited at Canary Wharf to see if a train would use the ramp. The points were still directed from platform 2 at WIQ, but then after like 5 minutes, they switched to the diveunder track, so that got me excited and I thought a train would use the diveunder, but then the points switched back and trains from Westferry were not using the diveunder

I was at West India Quay at the weekend, and it seems like the rebuilt portion of the platform that is no longer a platform also looked complete but was still cordoned off. I wonder if they're just awaiting formal handoff or something?

I wonder if they're just awaiting formal handoff or something? It probably is something like that. Mudchute and Shadwell have been finished for several months now (there is even a 'trains do not stop past this point' sign at Shadwell), but they still have a barrier accross the platforms.

London Reconnections reports that the grade separated delta junction was commissioned on 11 May. "Light News" (DLR's newsletter) says the fly-under will open later this summer.
