Swines! I'd willingly repaint L11 - having got more years than I care to remember of coach finishing painting under my belt.
Give me a 4" brush and 2 gallons of Crimson Lake plus some hard stopping and the job's a good 'un. ;D

And it still looks in a better condition than the 92 stock!

Perhaps we shuld line it out in gold,as well? It doesn't seem to have budged an inch since I saw it in February looking very sorry for itself. Does it have a work schedule? Is it ever even moved? If the answer to these is "no" then it was a shame to leave it so long in such an exposed position, and I'm afraid these days such vandalism is sadly to be expected under such circumstances. Wouldn't it be a nice idea to get it preserved and looked after? It's a bit of a tube veteran and deserves a better fate than the one that beckons..... Apropos spray-vandalism,in my limited experience of having seen this actually being done, the perpertrators were adults in their 30s.... Muttered comment "Getting a bit old for that kind of lark, aren't you boys?"

It's physically impossible to move it - it's on it's own piece of track, unconnected to any other track! Wouldn't it be a nice idea to get it preserved and looked after? It's a bit of a tube veteran and deserves a better fate than the one that beckons..... It is preserved, that's why it is where it is! The Cravens Heritage site has more info HERE

If those buildings aare flats, then it could be quite concievable that the perpetrators could come from, or know someone who comes from those flats!

I'd be there too.perhaps more willing than experienced! Perhaps we shuld line it out in gold,as well? Depends if you're up for using a lining machine (easy peasy), varnish-fix duplex transfers (fun, but can send you bog-eyed with levels), japan sizing the area and leafing it (not in a month of sundays when it's outside: the books of gold leaf would just blow away) or the good old sword pencil and mahl stick. ;D Trouble with using gold paint or dutch bronze is that it will verdigris in time - I've had good results using stamping foil instead of leaf, with judicious varnishing it will keep the shine. If you paint, then a suitable alternative is lemon chrome or jonquil (although you end up with a yellow, rather than a gold line). I seriously reckon that if you discounted prep (flatting and filling) I could paint a side in about 2 hours.

Least the acid hasn't come out on it - yet! We need a 24/7 guard on that vehicle, with 10 officers, with assault rifles and bulletproof tanks!

It did languish at Acton for some time in a yellow/rust/filler combo of colour. A lot of time, money and effort went into saving it and getting it transported to where is is now. Alas, there was a plan at one time to convert the Epping Signal Cabin into a sort of museum, however, for one reason or another, this has gone quiet. Shame what the mindless morons of society will stoop to. Perhaps some sort of device could be cloaked around it, so that intruders will be sprayed with that smart water system?

Technical Note; The damage to L11 is what is known as a 'dub' as opposed to what we would normally see on trains and buses, that indecipherable scrawl known as a 'tag'.
'Dubbers' are always older, more organised, 95% of the time in full-time, well paid employment and much more violent when confronted than 'taggers'.
In my experience of dubbers, the oldest was a guy of 45 who was in the process of decimating refurbishment work on stations at the east-end of the Central a few years back. He protected himself with a couple of bull terriers and only submitted to arrest when the cops on the scene threatened to call a Trojan unit to shoot his dogs! 'Dubbers' are less prevalent than 'taggers', but we see more tags because it's an easier form of vandalism perpetrated by more kids. We notice the 'dubs' because of where they are, the colour and the size. They are equally destructive and the Courts do not differentiate in sentencing when these prats are eventually put before them.

Thanks for the detail,177topclass. The guys I saw were doing a complex mural (dub) and didn't look like they wanted to chat. As I said, they were well into their 30's,and were busy decorating a bridge abutment on the Parkland Walk (Northern City Extension!) I didn't get involved because it was possible they were something to do with the youth club that uses part of the trackbed and the old substation there. In context with what you said, however,it makes perfect sense.

It would appear there are both tags and dubs on the side. What really irritates me is when people defend something like this as freedom of speech and art. There was a video on youtube of Acton Works sidings and the (half) herritage stock on there being painted. The comments box was the real eye-opener though. People with respectible names and articulated writing calling nay-sayers "fascist pigs, who quite clearly dont understand the plight of the youth or the expression of art". You can't say 'well, actually these arent as tallented or thought provoking as something like that of Banksey, and regardless of artistic merit cost thousands to remove, which private individuals often lack'.
You can't win. If supposedly responsible adults with liberalist agendas are saying people should be able to express themselves like this, then perhaps we should hunt them down and scrawl (very artisticly and stylised, mind) swear words on the cars, windows and houses.

Their houses and cars are probably already covered in graffiti, which is why they need to spray public transport with the unsightly mess.

If You Tube has a video or comments which appear to support criminal damage, write an Annoyed of Acton letter to the local rag.. Or better one of the nationals... Hopefully that will send a message to You Tube that it CANNOT continue to support such 'criminal' acts..

I have lost count of how many times youtube have been in trouble for this sort of thing, on either side of the pond. Are they trying to get the site shut down or something?
