According to at least two sources I have it was in fact MET No1 but with different bogies. The Locomotives Illustrated on MET locos and 'Workhorses Of The London Underground' both state this. The latter suggests that an attempt was made to preserve it but, as the war had not long ended, the attempt came to nothing. Now wouldn't THAT have been nice on the main line now.....

Ok, it looks very similar. The bogies would be different as they, and its BWE200 equipment went to a 1921 saloon stock motor car in 1922.

Contrariwise, in 'Steam to Silver' it states that the GN&C had an electric shunting loco from the start (i.e. pre Met days), and "there is some evidence which would indicate that one the bodies of this group [Met Electrics 1-10] was used to rebuild the original locomotive at Drayton Park".
One is left wondering (a) if there is a picture of the loco as built anywhere; and (b) what it is that defines an electric locomotive.

Yes, Brian Hardy's Surface Stock file also suggests this, and continues to say that a further 9 locos would have been used to haul GN trains through the tunnels to Moorgate. Only one was built.
