I understand that the refurbished east ticket hall and staircases are to reopen at 15.00 today.
This marks a significant step in the restarting of works at this treasured station.

And this will probably see the junking of the lightboxes that are there, if so, Barons Court and Northfields are the only two I can think of that are remaining.

Is the one at Hounslow West WB (which seems to be a modified version of the original from the Hatton X opening) still there? Likewise Hatton X? There were of course two there when it was the terminus.

Upney (EB), East Ham (both*), Upton Park (both*), Whitechapel (both), Aldgate East (both), Cannon Street (WB), High Street Kensington (OR) and Barons Court (WB) still survive- working. (*=WB survive with "METROPOLITAN LINE")

Harrow-on-the-Hill also has them!
Thankfully too, because I'm making working ones for my model railway layout! Stuff making working dotmatrix ones in 4mm scale!

I thought Harrow-On-The-Hill had lost them?

No doubt Aldgate East will get new DMIs when the platforms are done, and will give precisely the same amount of info/advance warning as the existing ones since the signalling system will be unchanged.

Ticket hall closed for around 2 years for what looks like a re tiling job. There is probably more than that, but that's what it looks like.

I was told there today that all the original platform roundels and signage that was retained by Metronet has "gone missing" - what a surprise!

The simple way to prevent this is to charge the senior members of site staff the full market price for replicas, plus the time and expense incurred in procuring them and compensation for the loss of the originals. Also, if any evidence (cctv per chance?) exists of any person wilfully "losing" anything, then prosecute them for theft. I believe that handling stolen goods is also a crime, and that there is some strong legislation about the proceeds of crime.
Also, you could insist that custody of any feature removed from its setting is the responsibility of the museum.

Here here Chris!
I think the light boxes often are better than the dot matrix!

Absolutely. What manager would accept responsibility though? The mere thought of someone actually having to answer for a cock up...

The farce at Aldgate East was a direct result of Metromess going under - the original contractors downed tools when the money dried up and there was a massive delay whilst Metromess passed into TfL.
Now that things have settled, and new contractors brought in, the job has started up again. As for the missing signage, I would imagine the original contractors ought to hold the answer...

Great news re: Aldgate East (the work starting, that is, not the original fittings going missing...) but is there any chance Mile End might get going again soon? It is so gloomy in there. I noticed some of the temporary panels on the w/b Central wall were removed last weekend.

Ah yes I was on a train on Wednesday morning that pulled in to Aldgate East, the driver seemed very surprised that the east end gates were open again. It's a bit disappointing that all that's changed is a new ceiling, new tiles and now there's no more cashpoint down there; and it took 3 years to do it.

It was announced yesterday that the Metronet name is to be abolished and all references changed to "London Underground". Be interesting to see if depot signage, service vehicles etc are re-lettered quickly. One down (or is is two?) - one to go...

They were taking that down a couple of weeks ago - I had to dodge the signage people and their tower.

As Colin says the turnover of staff involved in these projects can be fairly high for one reason or another.
You may be surprised to know that it costs money to take away and look after materials. There could be a dispute on storage costs of items to be reinstated at the end of refurbishment. Which could run into years.

The name Metronet may have gone but legally it remains as seperate companies called LUL Nominee BCV/SSL Limited. See what they done...
