Net Objects Fusion Essentials is a free WYSIWYG site builder. www.netobjects.com/html/essentials.htmlI have the full program, but the free version is still a good bit of kit if you don't want anything too fancy. It's the same program Dave used to build the main site and it's what I'm using for my current effort ( www.thurrocktransport.co.uk if you're interested). Whilst I'm self promoting, I think it's a fair bet that my District line photos site is now a dead entity (also a Net Objects job) - the current one [mentioned above] is of more interest to me personally - hmm.....a change of signature could be just around the corner!....

For a source - or perhaps I should say guide - to free software (for pretty well everything) I use Gizmo's Freeware Reviews at www.techsupportalert.com/ . For HTML editing or web page building in particular see here (not that I've done any of it)

Seconding this. Also... vi ? Oh yes. joe isn't so bad either. I never got to grips with vi, tho I've seen people do some pretty impressive stuff with it.

I think some people take to it, others don't. I do - it's even available for Windows now, which is useful. It could be worse, you could be an emacs fan!

vi ? At the risk of looking rather silly - could you expand as I don't follow you? .......

Even though it isn't free i wouldn't recomend Macromedia Dreamweaver. It's rather frustrating to work with.

vi for windows? I think I'll take a look at that. vi is (essentially) a text editor for Unix, Linux, MacOS, and apparently now Windows, with a lot of features. It's actually a lot more than a basic text editor, but I won't fill this thread. Here's the Wikipedia article. There's also vim which is vi with more features. Dreamweaver can seem somewhat complicated, but it's one of the industry standard tools for a reason and is immensely powerful with integration with Flash and Fireworks. I wouldn't use anything else these days.
