My train was heading from Aldgate to Liverpool Street when we came to a stop and were held here for the reason given in the title. After the train in front was detrained and went off, we came into Liverpool Street where some people (including me) bailed out and many more got on.
Any idea what the obstruction is?

It was an object found in the 'four foot' just down by the sidings at Farringdon. It was subsequently removed by a DSM with service resuming thereafter.

Ok, don't know if this is related or not, but didn't want to start a new thread unnecessarily.
I was travelling from Moorgate to Euston Square just a little while ago and as my train was departing Moorgate, I managed to get a glimpse of the driver's information board with a notice like: "10mph speed restriction between Moorgate and Barbican ..." Couldn't read the rest of the notice as my train was on the move!
Does anyone know why this TSR was in place, and if it was due to the above incident (i.e. obstruction in the Farringdon area) or not?

Met trains have started to terminate at Harrow early this evening, perhaps something to do with it?

This TSR was in place from the start of traffic and totally unrelated to whatever went on later at Farringdon.

Farringdon obstruction was next to the sidings on the westbound, it was a gas cannister in the 4ft with the nozzle detatched and in the 6ft. How it got there I do not know. Trains were held on handsignals and the Farringdon SS removed the item. The juice was off for a few minutes. The A stock at Liverpool St had a C stock stalled behind it so was told to detrain and move up to let the C stock in. Delay was no more than 15mins max.

Although I totally understand if it's something that can't be mentioned in a public forum.

I don't know, but the blindingly obvious reason is that there is some sort of track defect.
A 10mph restriction would most likely be a wheel unload in the area or the result of engineering work that could not be fully completed before trains started to run (though left safe enough to run over at slow speed) - whatever the problem is, it'll most likely be sorted out during engineering hours when trains aren't about.

The 10mph affected trains leaving platforms 2,3 & 4 going west. It started at the points and finished up near the limit of shunt so was obviously a points issue. It didn't affedt trains going into the bays, only out of them onto the westbound line.

i was working at farringdon station when the above mention happened the obstruction was indeed a gas cylinder it had fallen from the roof of the building just above the sidings. were some men working on the roof and this canister fell on to the track one of the workmen quickly ran into the station to inform the staff what happened and the supervisor on duty went down and removed it.
