Theres got to be something for the A60s, afterall their lose will be almost the last step in 'Taming the Met' to just a tube line. Now theres an idea for a book title! It would be a study of the slow decline of a main line wannabe to an ordinary tube. Quote a bit of Betjamin in the introduction, few pictures of Baker Street in the 50's, interviews with a few DIs and former motormen. Bosh whack! I'd buy it!

I love how you used the phrase 'Taming the Met'. Definitely has a feel good factor to it. And if that book is to be written, how about making it into a documentary as well, with part of the proceeds going into preserving some A60s purely for the enthusiasts! And talk about a thread drift! I had a feeling that this thread was meant to be about a 38ts rail tour on the Jubilee ;D ;D ;D

Lest it be forgotten, most of the northern part of the Jubilee was Met. territory.
The Met. shall never be tamed whilst the last remaining pre-1933 timetable numbering series continues! Even the mighty District kicked out the Piccadilly in 1970 after suffering them for 93 timetables.

I agree, it is taming the Met. With the demise of the A stock the Metropolitan Railway will be dead! I just hope someone can stick a few Met Crests on the new S8s when they come out, just like we are starting to see crests on the 'M' door windows!
I'm sure there will be an A stock farewell, and I shall be on it - crying!
Looking forward to this Jubilee Rail Tour however.

Prjb has said it will be specifically ruled out about the crests previously on here. Went against corporate identity or something. Quite how a 4" square crest on one side of a 430'+ train detracts from corporate identity significantly is something I don't understand. Its not like its a swastica or anything afterall! If anything I'd say it'd detract more from Neasdens ability to take pride in its workhorses. I hope they appear, but I'm sure there will always be some managers who would regard it as vandalism (that isn't directed at anyone individualy or specifically, just to make clear). Paul, why is it such a bad thing? And yes, the Jubilee rail tour will be good fun!

Don't forget the Met hit back. P stock was supposed to be for the Met, and F stock made an appearance. After taking a standard design and District hand-me-downs, new stock was designed just for the entire line. It could happen again.

Sorry to keep slightly off thread, but what ever your personel thoughts on S stock, this is certainly not a tube train in any sense. It is a main lne derivation designed for a suburban railway indeed maybe even their use could be dragging the opposition into the main line fold again! Back towards thread, but an A60 rail tour could still visit Jubilee metals between Finchley Road and Stanmore (platform 2 still fit for use until they fit a tube height arrestor). But a 1938 run always attracts even on borrowed metals, but then TfL may catch on that this only goes to show what comfortable tube train should be like.

Of course the S Stock isn't a tube train, but then neither is an A Stock!

Of course the S Stock isn't a tube train, but then neither is an A Stock! You may have not seen the point I was making in that it was not a tube train but another main line train! Now that can not be all bad for the SSR.

That's old news!!
The cancellation was first mentioned on the previous page of this very thread - reason being a football event at Wembley.

Luckily, it will probably be re-instated at a later date.
