I noticed yesterday when changing from Wimbleware to H & C, at Edgware Road, the footbridge had a television screen, showing footage from CCTV cameras pointing directly at the DMIs for each platform. Is this LU's idea to save energy by not installing power-eating DMIs everywhere? I also noticed Platform 2 had an old DMI with red bulbs.

AFAICR it was an inspired suggestion from a member of staff that works at Edgware Road.
Cheap and simple to replicate the information with either video or cat 5 feeds (I'm not sure how the images are transferred).

I also noticed Platform 2 had an old DMI with red bulbs. I thought the platform 2 red LEDs were part of an experiment to enhance the sighting of that style of DMi in daylight conditions?

The red DMI has been there years (approx 15). If memory serves, the DMI conflicted with the platform repeater in one direction and the station starter in the other. This was an experiment for this and other locations. However, the conflicts were mainly from the guard's point of view - which even 15 years ago had since become less of a problem.
EDIT: They're not red LEDs, but it's a red filter fixed over the normal LEDs used

All three types of that make of sign, indoor, outdoor and red, have the same tinted perspex screen but use three different types of led. There are no filters fiited to any DMI.

Fair enough, then I suppose you would be in contact - as I have been recently - to one of the chaps who installed the thing during one of my night shifts whilst I was signalman there - and requested me to display certain train descriptions to test the kit out.

Some of the Central line DMI's are red too. West Acton, East Acton and Ruislip Gardens spring to mind.

I'm not sure how it's saving energy if, instead of an LED board, you use a CRT telly...
