Quick question... should an Oyster card survive if the prat of a user accidentally puts it on the RFID patch on a bus ticket machine? (I have been known in the past to try and 'touch in' with my debit card ).

(I have been known in the past to try and 'touch in' with my debit card ). I think they'll be fine - both are most likely derivatives of the Mifare classic - I think even the Mifare DESFire EV1 is pretty indestructable. Why don't you check your Oyster balance online TC? (wanders off sniggering slightly)

Yes - wayfarer should only update card if it recognises it. Although they are chip and pin in effect, the software is completely different. It works the same way (or doesn't as the case is ) when you try and put a rail ticket into a magnetic card validator or a wayfarer issued card into lauto barrier gates etc - I've tride ;D (First bristol/avonl MCV tickets don't work barriers, in the same way the rail versions of freedom tickets etc can't be read by the MCV) Mind you, this was the same system that issued a card in the MCV, then invalidated it because the magnetics on the first issue were useually out of sinc and couldn't read its own issue. Very annoying, when you get on the next one and it bleeps at you saying out of date or zone not valid and its only just issued it! ;D ;D ;D
