Going down from croxley to watford this weekend, lets count the number of missing shoes on monday in the depot. But surely the missing shoes won't be in the depot. That's why they're missing

That's an interesting point. After said rails have been replaced are they tested at full running speed to make sure this does not happen or is there simply not enough time.

They should be fitted correctly, and properly aligned, and have already been tested away from the main line. However, as can happen, teething troubles can occur on the first "test runs" which is the reason for neasdena60's concern ;D

I'm only aware of a P&C unit being factory assembled prior to installation.. Completed works would have been checked against standard dimensions with a track gauge and signed off by a T002/3 licensed inspector. Well that's how maintenance work is checked by p-way. abtus.co.uk/Rail/Products/Mech/abt4079.pdfEveryone in a p-way gang would have a nickname. There was a Franky **** up who once welded the con rail end ramps at an upwards angle...

As the official blurb says it is effectively an aluminum rail with a steel cap, the shoes running on the harder steel with improved electrical properties of the aluminum for conductivity and the proposed higher voltage.
