'Tis official - Chesham will get through trains once the S-stock arrives.
Chesham to get all day direct Tube services to central London
11 February 2009
London Underground publish the results of the Chesham and Amersham consultation.
LU announced today that Tube users will get direct services all day from Chesham and central London, following a consultation last year.
It is planned for the new through-services to start in 2011 after new trains are delivered on the Metropolitan line.
[...]
Changes to services
The changes, which would not affect the current peak-time services, are as follows:
* Two trains per hour running direct between Chesham and central London throughout the day. Customers would no longer need to change at Chalfont & Latimer
* Two Metropolitan line trains per hour between Amersham and central London, instead of the present four. The two trains per hour service provided by Chiltern Trains (one train per hour on Sundays) would be unaffected, so the total number of trains from Amersham to central London would fall from six to four per hour (and from five trains to three per hour on Sundays)
The whole press release is here:

It says more information on the consultation "will be" available on the TfL website, though it ain't yet - but for future reference here's the relevant page anyway:

Seems like a decent enough solution. A bit of a less frequent service to and from Amersham which will of course irk some, but you can't have everything. Amersham passengers might have to get used to waiting at Harrow on the Hill for the next Chiltern or Met train (particularly for northbound journeys I suppose) - I'd hope that there might be better provision of information at HotH to help Amersham-bound pax make sure they're on the right platform!
Of course the other thing Amershamians (?) can do is obtain gen up on the Chiltern timetable so they can go to Marylebone to catch the train north from there. It's worth noting that (on Oyster PAYG at least) there's out-of-station interchanges (aka 'outerchanges') set up between both Baker Street and Marylebone (which is kinda obvious) but also between Edgware Road [C/D/H&C] and Marylebone (which I only realised recently), which might prove useful to some people.
