Upminster depot managed to supply this fine offering as train 101 for the afternoon peak. Double Bubble in unpainted Aluminum style this time. Solidbond couldn't wait to run down and tell me it had been formed up and allocated to me, YAY !!! ;D ;D ;D ;D We surmised that it may be about to go for refurb, which seems likely as it was to do a rounder and half and be subbed into Ealing depot. Unfortunately it became rather sick on it's trip east and although i kept it in service for my bit it was unfit to go back to Ealing. Bonus point, not District drivers, for identifying the location of the picture ....ok, not that hard i know !

Hmmm, well double bubble was out agian today, as train 30. But it failed at lunchtime for the same reasons it failed yesterday and was withdrawn from service this time. One of this group removed it to depot and i'm sure he will have given the engineers full detail of the defects !

Not quite the same, I know, but today I was -sure- that I saw a refurb and non-refurb together. It looked like it was just a couple of cars of non-refurb, if that.
I could've been mistaken though - I only saw it for a few seconds

I could've been mistaken though - I only saw it for a few seconds I believe that isnt possible. What you probably saw was 7008; the prototype refurb.

No, what is "Double Bubble"? Two double ended units coupled together It's very rare indeed for two double ended units of D stock to be coupled together in service.

Just to add a little update on the 'Double-Bubble'. At the moment there are TWO trains running round made up of 2 double-ended units. One is made up of 7536+7501 and the other is 7505+7530 as shown earlier in this thread. Both trains are made up of unrefurbished stock, but 7536+7501 won't be around for long as it is the next one to go away for refurb.
