To describe this as a complete cock up, would be a understatement.
The first set of plans were as follows.
new yard layout to take extra stabled trains.
new lifting shop ( 2 active roads, one hard standing. )
new exam shed ( 5 roads one with platforms.)
new cleaning shed.
new training centre.
super stuff, and it looked good om paper, but sadly we dont build on paper.
in oct 2007, north end lifting shops 24 - 26 were taken out of use, to be refitted as the new cleaning shed. once ready the old acid shed was to be removed ready for the new lifting shed.
hardly any work has been done, and now the lifting shed north is to be returned to full company use, in a huge u turn. ( all services and equipment were ripped out, and now will have to be replace!!!)
the plan for the new lifting shed ( which would of run from the sub station / training centre ) right down to the ddm's office, and meet the refurbed cleaning shed has now been shelved.
it looks more and more likely the new stock will be maintained inside the old lifting shed ( somehow?? ) with A stock in the north end, and S stock in the south.
Costings are now under way to convert lifting shop south for this means ( the car jacks have foundations of six metres ), the crane may or may not have to be changed etc etc, will the trains fit for bogie swaps etc.
WHY THE BIG CHANGE??
once TFL/LUL got hold of the plans, and saw the costing, waste of funds to the taxpayer, the whole plan was put on hold, and put back to square one.
i will come back later with the steam shed, cleaning sheds, exam sheds fiasco and ufwl.
