I spotted a BBC Sound Effects record (whatever one of those is...I'm far too young to know! ) on eBay for the Victoria line earlier in the week...well, of course I was keen to hear exactly what sound effects existed, and so out of morbid curiosity pressed the 'buy' button. Anyway, said record arrived today and features both the Victoria and W&C lines - the latter features the Class 487 / 1940 Stock trains. The 1967 Stock must still have been fairly new when the recording was made as the train featured sounds a lot quieter than they all do these days! The only exception to this is when a compressor kicks in - by comparison this is quite loud, although that may simply be due to the recording equipment being placed near where the compressor is located. I've ordered a turntable which converts vinyl into a digital format, so once that gets here I may be able to upload the recordings to the Tube section of my site, although obviously there may be copyright issues involved with that, so we'll have to see. (If I can do it, I'll try to keep a bit of crackle on the soundtrack, just for that 'authentic' feel!) Does anyone else have anything like this in their record collection..?

I was aware of the Beeb doing sound effects CD's, or vinyl in the old days, but not of tube trains. Steam, yes, but tube no. If you could upload some tracks, that would be good.

Well, the conversion gadget arrived the other day, and the audio was duly made into separate MP3 tracks - I'm very pleased with the end results - they were much better than I'd expected they'd be - I even managed to convert some of the crackle as well!
These files are now available on the site, should anyone wish to hear them. (One of the tracks is a recording of the W&C line's famous 'travelator' at Bank!) Also added is a car diagram for the East London line from about 1990 - just after the future became orange!
