CSLR is right.
The way you learned not to climb over spiked railings was when one of your mates/acquaintances slipped and spiked himself, ending up in casualty. Nowadays railings are not allowed to be spiked, and anti-climb paint on drainpipes has to have a label so if you slip you can't complain......
Until the do-gooders and their friends in the nanny state see sense, kids will get to 15 yrs and still feel nothing can hurt them because anything dangerous is against the law.......
Should be in 'rant', but it doesn't help the nerves of Alan and t/op92. The police can't be everywhere: 99 times out of 100 it's the parents who (almost) encourage such activities knowing they can get into the press/sue if something goes wrong. Unfortunately (getting back on thread) suing or invading the station is not a lot of use if your son is already dead...........
'Parents, do you have any idea what your teenage son is ACTUALLY doing?'

Unfortunately (getting back on thread) suing or invading the station is not a lot of use if your son is already dead........... 'Parents, do you have any idea what your teenage son is ACTUALLY doing?'This is so VERY true and all drivers have my sympathy when along the lines and these total R. Soles are about and up to absolutely no good whatsoever. One October night years ago, just after I passed as a Guard on Brit Rail, I was asked to assist the driver in searching the track for 'something' the driver of the last train travelling in the opposite direction had reported hitting. Within a mile, we found a guy laying beside the track very seriously injured, but still semi-conscious and so lucky to be alive. Unfortunately, he died next morning so the driver and I had to attend his inquest, after which his Mother and Brother thanked us for what we did for him, while his Father said The railway were to blame because the driver should have warned his son he was approaching. To this day, Nobody knows why the guy was on the track and almost a mile from any access other than fields.

Perhaps the rise in popularity of 'extreme sports' is down to the same thing? People escaping sanitisation, but doing so in ways that have much lower risk but higher prices. Well, I'm all for extreme sports, Windsurfing, Snowboarding etc, are just two of a number I appreciate!

the kid who died went to my school. From what i've heard, he was one of those kind of "Gangsters" who think they're untouchable. I hope people learn from this although they probably wont.

Or in his case, "thought he was a gangster".

This makes me so sick! Its like that boy who got stabbed but its now apprent he was part of a gang (and all that). All you hear is, "they were wonderful people, they didn't deserve it, its not fair, its someone elses fault", my reaction to that is BS! If someone wants to play with knifes and guns, they're gonna get stabbed or shot, if someone wants to walk on live rails, then they're going to get electrocuted, and deservedly as well!!
Its like the old saying goes:
If you play with fire, your going to get burnt!

Apparently, someone walked under the 25kv OHL at Broxbourne on Saturday. Nothing unusual in that, except they were carryng a fishing rod (I'd have a head in hands with dispair smiley as well if I could find one)

read in the supplement in a paper on Saturday, kid dangled a washing line over the tracks near Stoke on Trent, and was ***very*** lucky to survive. Had to have skin grafts over hands and feet... Question: WHY? poor lad complains he can't use his play station - fingers are fused together where the skin 'melted' Well, who is to blame? ?

How old was he?
Hard to blame the parents if he's in his mid-late teens, hard to blame him if he's only 7 or 8.

Some poor bloke got juiced at Luton some years ago - he had just bought a new carbon based fishing rod and couldent wait to go home before assembling it and trying a few casts.
Now thats what I call tragic - not tagging infrastructure or trespassing on live and open tracks. -

Here's a True Story about two of my ex-classmates: These Two "artists" climbed onto a Signal Gantry East of Hayes About 3 Years Ago - They were "clever" ( ) artists and (according to the court case afterward) had decided it would be a clever idea to spray the signal lenses black. So Idiot #1 is leaning over the edge of SN271 while Idiot #2 is looking out for trains, police etc... 1Y82 (WB HEX) Decideds to make an appearance on the scene at 100mph. Driver Blasts his horn, makes Idiot #1 Jump with fright who then subsequently falls onto the OLE and gets catapulted into the canal 50m alongside the line. After spending 7 weeks in hosptial for major burns and Several Broken Bones He is Discharged and Returns to School However, The Scary bit of the story is this: When they came back to their Year 8 Class at School (My School) they were heroes among their friends. Subsequently Idiot #2 has been arrested for Joyriding arounds Slough at 80mph, and Idiot #1 Was unfortunately killed as a passenger in the same incident.

Painting on things is almost possible to understand, but painting over signals, and other such damage, needs to be treated as nothing less than attempted murder. I hope idiot2, and the 'hero'-worshippers, have realised why these things are frowned-upon. There was a case in Doncaster where a teenager had been hanging out of the window of a stolen car (legs inside, everything else outside) which collided with a bus shelter. He was removed from the gene pool, although he was probably in the shallow end anyway.

What might get through to the hero worshipers is if they see their heros sent to prison for 273* counts of attempted murder.
*According to what I've found, a Class 332 unit has a capacity 271 passengers. It also needs a driver and I presume at least one guard. HEx typicallly run as two units = 271*2+3 (1 driver, 1 guard/unit) = 545 counts.

It could theoretically be even more than that, taking into account trains on other lines and/or people in nearby buildings/roads and so on...
