Two questions really: firstly what are those pumps seen in the Northwood reversing siding? They look like petrol pumps? Diesel for the schomas? Secondly, on the A stock what is actually what on the underframes of the A stock trailers and motors? I can guess some of it. The PCM bank is one! Cheers in advance Metman

Thanks for the answers, but which bit is which? All cars have a box on the side what is that? The A60 Westinghouse compressors are small grey boxes, the A62 Reavell compressors are round with coils round them right?

i know there De-icing pumps but i have never got my tanks filled there in over 7 years of nights at ricky I think it was out of action for several years until last winter (2007/2008). For both that winter and this (to date) it hasn't been really used, as Neasden depot have been able to re-fill quite efficiently on most of the cold days. To re-fill the tanks at Northwood takes a fair bit of organising. The large tank that supplies the pumps has to be filled - and this can take a fair while. Plus a train technician or two have to be stationed there to do the business - and don't forget that de-icing means the weather is going to be a bit parky, and Northwood is in the open. Rather them than me ;D That said, it does provide an excellent location to top-up the Watford or even Amersham service without losing a train for too long - leaving Neasden room to deal with the Uxbridges.

Certainly on Tuesday lunchtime the siding was snowed over...

On at least 2 days last week we did get an all clear for the siding and crossover, in terms of de-icing having been done. I reversed a couple straight off the platform on 1 of those days (can't remember which day - last week had so many different problems that it has all merged into one).
As the all clears both came in the afternoon, and were retracted by late evening, any use of the siding would have been done by myself or my shift colleague. So I can more or less say for certain that the siding has not been used this week.
