I was at Chesham station a couple of weekends ago, was seeing a friend who lived in the area. Was last at the station in about 98/99.
The “features” of the station don’t seem to have been looked after – the water tower paint was rusting and peeling and the old signal box needed a clean/paint and had a window boarded up. The old award winning garden in the disused platform was over grown and unloved and the “garden award 1993” plaque was tarnished.
Did Chesham/LU not win a heritage award in the 90s for the preservation of the station?
I know that other things take priority, but it would not take alot of effort to have a good clean and paint - LU/Metronet shoud look after all stations well, but especially ones with interesting/listed features.
Thoughts?
Edit: I will be there is a couple of weeks - will take some photos if I can.

I've not been up there for a while but it wouldn't suprise me what's happened. That's a real shame.

It's a couple of years since I was last there, and the garden was overgrown then. I get the impression though that over the entire system the task of looking after the flora is left to an enthusiastic individual member of station staff working mostly in their own time. If there isn't at any time anyone working at the station willing/interested in being a gardener for the station, then everything gets neglected.

If there isn't at any time anyone working at the station willing/interested in being a gardener for the station, then everything gets neglected. This is indeed the case. Staff can apply to work on a station garden with the local GSM. If agreed they will be given £40(it may be more now) for plants under condition they do the gardening in their own time. If nobody is interested in an individual plot in just gets overgrown. I know Chesham used to look well cared for, presumably the staff member who maintained that plot has either decided not to do the plot anymore or has moved elsewhere.
