The easiest way to tell the difference was that C stock had pairs of doors and D stock single doors. Erm, I think checking whether the poles in the train were painted green or yellow was a bigger clue!

Even if the stat on increasingly costly to maintain is misleading, it's indisputable that the new trains are a vast improvement for passengers.

antje, I think that's a little unfair. If it was a choice between taking it out of service today and having enough mileage left on it to run the tour then I'd rather that than have the tour amended or cancelled. Perhaps poor planning on TfL's part in not making sure the train had enough mileage left, but then it was never advertised to the public as a special train so they can change it as / when they feel necessary. Seems a rather selfish attitude - people have paid a lot of money to go on the C stock tour and experience the novelty of it going "off piste". What exactly would have made yet another Wimbledon-Edgware Rd run so special?

Is it still planned to withdraw the remaining five C stocks on or before 4th June?

Unfortunately this will be a common occurrence soon as they head towards Northwood and beyond! XF I thought they were leaving for scrap at Acton?

How did the testing go - is the NMA6 commissioning still on schedule?
Will there be a period of "asset removal" once TBTC is running throughout the line, as per the VLU?

Will the remaining C's go one by one, or will it be a "Big Bang" where all 5 are withdrawn at once?

Is everything still on track for the remaining C stocks to go next month? Any indication of a date?

Presume everything went smoothly with the NMA5 go-live on Sunday?

One just has to read some of the comments below that article to see why the proposal went nowhere. Face it, 'D' stock are heading for the scrapheap. It may be 5-10 years earlier than one might have expectde them to go, but then again the A stock lasted longer than expected for a similar period. It can't be sensible to cling onto 35 year old technologty

I still can't believe that the first new stock I knew as a child will soon be no more. Are there any preservation plans? They are truly a unique train. They're unqiue only in their appalling single leaf door design and lumbering slowness. Don't see why they're any more worthy of preservation than C stock (none of which are being kept), with the possible exception of the "Olympic" unit that carried the flame.

Am I right in thinking that once TBTC is working across the whole line, then they'll be able to get rid of SDO at places like Charing Cross?

So will they start rolling out S stock on the 'main' District in the meantime?

Why so long to get rid of the last of the C's? Is it because of lack of S stock? (surely not, they are currently being delivers at a rate of 1 per week by the looks of it) Or do they want to get started on the District as a priority?

T71 is S Stock today as aspect said. Travelled from Southfields to Earl's Court this morning and it seemed as if no one noticed or cared! Pictures and videos to follow later today. The WIM branch passengers will care once they can't easily tell the City and Edgware Rd trains apart any more!

Am I right in thinking that NMA5 may go live very soon? There don't appear to be any scheduled closures of the southern section of the Northern Line after 8th/9th February.

Can anybody tell me how long the whole circle line takes to get around the whole thing Off-peak 74mins Hammersmith-Edgware Road via Liverpool St; 69mins Edgware Road-Hammersmith via Victoria. So, not a problem to use PAYG then given that the maximum journey time allowance within Z12 is 110 mins on a Saturday and 120 mins on a Sunday. Just touch in and touch out at your origin. www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/14872.aspx

I hope there will be some C-stocks running on 1st Feb...was hoping for a last bash, and maybe an attempt at a "Full Circle" (which won't be helped by the lack of a Zone 1-2 Travelcard...gnnnghhh!). Huh? Just use Oyster PAYG which will cap out at the old Z12 Travelcard price.
