Is there any news of S stock into service? Am I correct in thinking that the aim is for Summer 2010? In that case I guess it'll be in the next month one hopes ...

Surely they'll close it when ELLX2 opens? It's such a waste of capacity already, the New Cross trains I've seen seem near empty.

It reminds me a bit of Watford Junction - not sure that main line is allowed though?

Running trains longer than platforms, on commuter services, is a recipe for late running if more than a door is off the end. This being due to the time taken to get passengers through the train and off (or on) it. Surely you mean leisure services? On commuter services the commuters will know which door is the best to get out of.

Well at stations north of HOTH the displays either show "Northbound trains" or "Southbound trains" and nothing else. Confusingly at Northwood when the line is closed north of there the platform used for Southbound services continues to show "Northbound trains". I've seen passengers left behind because of this as there are no platform staff.

Why not just run it at 5 in the morning when it's basically daylight and no service to interupt?

Trust me, the hold at Canada Water can be long, and you just feel the cool air melting away as the doors remain open. This is bog standard mainline operation on most modern trains. I for one don't understand why tubes don't employ this operation on outside sections.

Am I correct in thinking the closure yesterday was to test the new S Stock? Reason I ask is I'm thought prjb said somewhere recently that S Stock can now pass A Stock in service. A bit annoying then if they still have possessions. That aside though, I saw the S Stock at Rickmansworth yesterday (from my RR bus) at about 2030 and I have to say it looks superb - can't wait for these to be introduced.

Yikes this was/is really bad. I got turfed out at New Cross Gate after listening to a chorus of "we are sorry, this train is being delayed by Congestion" on the train. Amazingly at NXG they were still using the automated announcements. I managed to jump over to platform 4 and catch a fast line London Bridge service which left nearly empty. There were no announcements advising those on P5 to cross over. My other half arrived at Forest Hill at 9.30am and reached London Bridge at 11am!

This morning there was a hush at Forest Hill. The megaphone guys were there but no shouting was deemed necessary aside from a reasonable "mind the doors". Perhaps they've had feedback from up on high ...

I actually experienced something similar a year ago and fedback on the online form. I got an email asking for further info (train/car no) and after I gave that I got a nice personal email saying my comments would be passed onto his manager and also it was nice to receive a positive comment as they're rare!!!

I'm beginning to wonder whether there is a plan to this. Could it be that with the very intensive (for NR) style of service now running through stations they're worried that every second counts? Perhaps it's just to give the drivers more confidence to brake late. I've seen before on NR that where a platform is extremely full drivers do seem to coast in very slowly (understandably) but that of course just makes matter worse.

The orange jackets upped the ante this morning at Forest Hill - using some form of wailing siren (a bit like Red Alert on Star Trek) out of the loud hailers first before repeatedly shouting SBTYL.

Witnessed the first argument this morning. At Forest Hill a lady took great objection and said something to the effect of "I've been commuting from here for the last 30 years, why has it suddenly become dangerous to stand where I've always stood without incident. This is unwarranted harrassment of the public". Also noticed they guys at NXG were announcing the train destination and stops with loud hailers at the same time as the automated announcement doing exactly the same thing. They really add nothing and are a nuisance.

Why do they need to shout it out when a train is at the station with its doors open? It's crazy and annoying. I really hope when the new PIS gets installed these guys disappear. Maybe they'd be better manning barriers as since the ELL opened the barriers are generally left open after 8pm on the Croydon line.

Experienced odd running this morning from Forest Hill. The 0844 breezed through the station without stopping to the bewilderment of everyone including the numerous orange jacketed "stand behind the yellow liners" holding loud hailers. The 0847 arrived on time however it stopped briefly on the flyover followed by very long stops at Surrey Quays and Canada Water. No announcements of any kind were made over the PA and on the platform the loud hailers merely kept shouting for PAX to stand away from the doors when they closed. Got to Whitechapel at 0915.

Forest Hill received the orange vinyl signs overnight. Both New Cross Gate and Forest Hill had painters at work this morning - looked like they were painting metal things (lampposts and seats) grey.

Perhaps they figure people will just cope until the phase 3 refurb starting in July/August. I suppose they could just post a paper timetable on a board until then.

You may have unwittingly looked at the one sign that was changed in mid April to the white with stripe style sign while all others remained Southern green. I may be wrong but I thought the black on orange is being used for those stations not being immediately refurbished, which explains why Forest Hill retains its Southern green signs given it is supposedly the first to be refurbished, presumably obtaining either white with stripe or perhaps full roundels.

Honor Oak Park got the treatment yesterday - black writing on orange background. Not the easiest to read - I far prefer the one at NXG.
