Finished my signal career in Loughton cabin before transferring to the Picc as a driver. Though I never worked on the lever frame it would be a shame if it rotted away. Are the push button controls still in the cabin for Loughton Debden and Epping No , the NX panels reside in their respective stations since take over by Wood Lane. At Epping and Debden, they are in rooms off the platforms, and at Loughton the big one is on full public display in the Supervisor's office in the subway, behind a very large window....at least it was last time I went past there a year or two ago, when i noticed it still had all the Dymo embossed labels attached that i stuck on all those years ago. I went to the District, never looked back, still in Service Control today. The panels are all "ready to go" in the event of system failure....the beauty of the Loughton one is that savvy passengers can take a glance at it on the way to the platforms and see their train approaching from Buckhurst Hill or Debden. Next one on the cards for us will be Mansion House then a slight mod at Tower Hill with another crossover just east of the station then East Ham goes. But with East Ham the points are actually being moved to Barking so you will be able to reverse from the E/B platform then just after 40's points there will be another set of points which will take the train back west via the road from the bay road. Wonderful.....completely shutting down the E/B whilst train terminates, driver changes ends in the usual leisurly fashion, goes through the tediously slow opening up/logging on procedure etc ....all the while with trains stacking up back towards Plaistow on the almost saturation-point timetable we currently have...with even more likely when the remaining Tower Hill reversers get extended East.

A lot of my duties take me to Upminster Signal Cabin, overlooking platform 6,and I can confirm that both units,413 & 414 have now been completely re-painted LO....goodbye London Midland,it was good to have a splash of unusual colours for a while.

22 was a Calling on signal...for a (4 car)train to enter the platform already occupied by another (4 car) train, for coupling purposes. 23 was the final shunt signal for a route out of the sidings complex. Hope i've remembered this right....its been a long time.

I can tell you one thing for sure.....on the signalling/control side I can say that by cancelling the average ten trains (mostly a.m. / p.m. peak extras),whats left now run to time much better...the headways are sometimes greater, but in general it all seems to run much easier (i'm talking District here)

I assume it's down to the current overtime ban within LU depots ; as far as the District goes (my line) about 8 to 10 trains are currently cancelled every day for the a.m / p.m. peak services ex-depot due to no prep time. The splitting up and disposal of redundant stock would be much lower down the list of priorities right now. Their replacement S stock has already been delivered,so we have the over-stock situation until things return to normal.

My understanding is,following the move from Whitechapel last week,is that there are currently more S stocks on the District than places to put them. So about 5 D stocks are looking for a place to hide....currently 1x Amersham,1x Dagenham East Siding. All suggestions gratefully received apparently !
