I am struggling with the objections to multi-syllabled names. All Underground lines technically have a "the" in front of them and "Line" after them. Taking just names - Elizabeth and Victoria are 4 syllables. Metropolitan 5 syllables. Hammersmith and City 6. District and Central I grant you; Northern is also short at the moment but probably more after the split. So there may be other grounds for objection but length/polysyllablarity isn't one of them.

There is a plaque to the engineering firm Maudslay Sons and Field whose works were on or near the site of the station. One of their beam engines can still be seen working at the London Museum of Water & Steam.

Apologies for the pedantry but it's strictly speaking Abbey Mills Pumping Station. A terrific photograph - wouldn't the polychrome brickwork make a wonderful moquette for seats on the Beckton line?

I cannot now find the reference (London Reconnections?) but there is a very full report by the job architects on the interior fittings in 55 Broadway identifying room by room items of historic interest. So these will I hope have been taken into account in planning and more importantly in the listed building consent.

I hesitate to correct norbitonflyer but I believe North British Railway 224 was recovered from the waters of the "Silvery Tay",was repaired, and ran for many years afterwards in public service and indeed eventually over the new bridge. It was apparently known as "The Diver".

First of all apologies for lurking and not saying "Hello" properly. Hello. Can't resist this thread as I was responsible for a time for liaison with the Railway Heritage Trust and had the chance to do the Settle and Carlisle and the Warcop branch (then still just in use by MOD)in Sir Bill McAlpine's GE saloon. That was certainly memorable not just for the smoked salmon sandwiches but also for the two photographers who popped out of the bushes at the end of the branch just as we arrived. Sadly I cannot remember the locomotive but no doubt the photographers will!
A splendid contrast with going to school in Sutton in the 50's on Southern slam door electric stock.

And there is a lot of local concern about what happens on match days at Gunnersbury and Kew Bridge when the new Brentford stadium is in use. Some suggestion of one way flows at Gunnersbury but no apparent proposals to develop any new accesses.

Not sure if it's the insert or the main but the wheels and chains are a horizontal hydraulic jigger possibly in the London Docks (E or W India?) for opening a lock gate or possibly for raising a bridge. Can't be more precise - the one I remember seeing some time ago was I recall in a depression below ground level. So I regret not a points winning answer.
