I've seen dripping from between where two panels join above the windows too - I'm not sure if this is coming directly through from outside, or from the vents?

Last night, arriving into Redbridge (outer-rail) I noticed a strange figure for only a few seconds, standing on the platform. This figure seemed to have a pointed hat (not a witch) When I opened the doors, I saw two large orbs float up towards the tunnel ceiling and vanish into thin air. I got out my cab, looked down the platform, but couldn't see anyone. Having worked on the Underground for over 40 years - this is the first time I've seen something spooky. I know most underground stations have ghost - It makes you wonder. My former headteacher believed in ghosts... He gave lectures on them to raise funds for the school, and told stories of individual lights coming on and off by themselves. But I'm not convinced...! Maybe it was an illusion. I was at Tufnell Park station a few months ago, and saw what looked like a headless man sitting on a bench at the far end of the platform. I looked and looked and couldn't find a logical explanation. It was just me and him, and eventually he moved and suddenly I realsed he was sleeping in a very odd position! But for a few moments, it did make me think ;D

What's a wheel flat/how does it happen? Maybe the question is a bit basic...

If it's "both sides open" won't that double the amount of time it takes for the driver to successfully close the doors and depart the station, especially if it's crowded? Most likely answer is that the new westbound platform face will provide a convenient way of getting from the westbound Central line across to the Docklands Light Railway (when it moves platforms) without having to go up and down stairs. The plan shows the platform on either side of the train, so it will be a "both sides open" station.

Stratford station is given £104m The proposed upgrade of Stratford railway station in east London will be fully funded by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), it has been announced... Improvements include 14 new lifts, two new station entrances and an additional westbound Central Line platform. Stratford is served by two underground lines, overground rail services and the Docklands Light Railway. (Story from BBC NEWS: news.bbc.co.uk/go/pr/fr/-/1/hi/england/london/6457359.stm) What does an additional westbound Central Line platform mean? Will Central Line trains be able to terminate at Stratford and be turned around?

There was a signal failure in the Leytonstone area. After about 10 minutes the driver announced that an engineer was on site at Leytonstone with a new part - so all eastbound trains had been stopped completely to allow the work to be carried out. I assume that the new part didn't work!

On Friday evening I got stuck on an eastbound Central Line train between Mile End and Stratford for around an hour. The driver kept us well informed, although it wasn't a very nice experience.
I was wondering how long you are 'allowed' to be stuck in a tunnel between stations? I knew there were 'severe delays' on the line so it wasn't a complete surprise to get stopped - but I wasn't expecting to be stuck in a tunnel for so long.
My normal experience is that trains get held in platforms further up the line, so I was surprised that there was another train stuck in the tunnel behind my one which also de-trained at Stratford. I'd never seen so many trains sticking out of tunnels (at both ends of the eastbound track at Stratford) and in the platform!

I accidentally probably irritated a Central Line TOp not so long ago; the destination was showing Hainault and nothing else at Tottenham Court Road. I looked puzzled at the destination display and I heard the front door slamming when he opened it to stick his head out and look. He still didn't change it though! It could mean anything - Hainault via Newbury Park, Hainault via Woodford, Woodford via Hainault - although I accept statistically it probably was Hainault via Newbury Park! ;D ;D ;D AND I just learnt how you spell Haunault! Usually, Woodford Via Hainault. Sometimes I set up the destination as Hainault via Newbury Park, and then change this at either Leytonstone or Hainault. Setting up the train as W'fd via Hainault causes no end of confusion!!! I get punters asking if the train goes to Gants Hill etc.

So if a Central Line train was entering an underground station at the fastest normal speed and the driver applied the emergency brakes just as the train was exiting the tunnel, how many carriages into the station would the train stop?

Ages ago, before I knew about this forum I was at Woodford station and the weather was quite drizzly... As a westbound train entered the station, it was making a lot of "pssst pssst pssst" sounds and as it was half way in the platform black 'smoke' came from underneath just one carriage towards the front. It smelt very strong, like burning rubber. By the time the station assistant on the opposite platform noticed, the train already had pulled away and continued its journey. Was that caused by brakes locking up?

Is the answer definitely Liverpool St? I know I said it was, but I was there today, and the stop board doesn't look quite like this photo - aren't there white tiles partly behind it? Or is this a very old photo?

I think at Grange Hill you would be able to see the ticket gates through those windows - if it has any windows?

It reminds me of when I was a child, in Roding Valley there were some fields and behind them a private lake, near the River Roding, and some bridges which looked like that. I know it's not there, though! But thanks for the memory ;D ;D

It could be the 'ladies waiting room' at Woodford, the one that leads to the ladies toilets on the island platform. For Wembley Park aren't the seats the wrong way round, I remember sitting parallel to the tracks facing a help point... with doors each side of me. Unless it's a different waiting room!

It does look a bit like the Chilterns, although I never remember getting winch-launched in the glider off the platform at Moor Park! The picture gives me the urge to go gliding, and I've left the club now

I have used SS for years, every now and again, still lose my bearings. I think if your coming from Central London, the NR is near the tailwall exit, the Main gateline is nearer the Headwall? Yes - at Finsbury Park I had to walk to the back of the Victoria line train to be near the NR exit at SS. Above ground, the two entrances seem to be very far apart... Unless I was walking around in circles in my panic!

It reminds me of Severn Sisters. And the day I thought I had lost my marbles... I was very late for work and I went out the wrong exit from the platforms, and marched at top speed into a different ticket hall (I didn't realise there were two). I looked totally dazed and confused and couldn't work out what had happened - I asked the station assistant what station it was, and he told me Severn Sisters. I was totally lost and thought I'd gone mad. It took me ten minutes to walk abovt ground and find the right entrance to the one service... I missed my train and got in trouble!

Wood Green definately NB the panel in the pic is for the sidings current. But the other square light that isn't lit up below the "wash and wipe down only" sign is a trip cock tester lamp though??? Or is it something else?

It's definitely Wood Green I think, and the tripcock tester lamp beneath "wash and wipe..." gives it away!
