Just been travelling on the Met, and whilst at Harrow, a pair of battery locos to and tailing a trio of ballast wagons. What struck me was that throughout the train, A ends were coupled to A end and D ends to D ends! What was going on here? Were emergency couplers being used or do the (ward or buckeye?) couplers on this stock allow this?

Doesn't make any difference with Ward or Buckeye couplers as they're entirely mechanical,if through control is required inter-car jumpers are used.

I can add to this. On platform 1 at Harrow tonight train 641 passed thru top and tailed by two battery locos and sandwiching the 'tube vac train'! What is this? It is owned by tubelines by the look of it! Is it a modern tunnel cleaning train?

It sucks up trackside stuff! I think out of drains.

Tunnel cleaning train a think your referring to. Before the 95s were released on the northern line the tunnel cleaner had to do alot of work.

Hi, Does anyone know if the tunnel cleaning or track recording trains run to set turns and if so what the details are and if not does anyone know where or when they are most likely to be seen? Cheers TubeDStock

Surely the TCC is withdrawn at Ruislip depot now? When it was operational its nocternal workings were shown in the internal EWSA (Engineering Works & Safety Arrangements) publication.
The TRT's workings are published on internal STNs (Special Timetable Notices) but these are not entirely reliable. Scheduled runs can be cancelled due to service disruption or other reasons, also early running can be expected on the latter part of runs if the crew arrange to forgo a meal relief in favour of 'job & finish'.

Incidently the use of FL actually denotes that the train is to run Fast Line also LL on the TTN denotes the Local Line.

Thanks for the info on the TRT, I just about caught up with it at Cockfosters. One day I will see a battery loco!

Diverging slightly, engineering train drivers on Transplant doing nights are the highest paid drivers in the UK [apart from East Coast and Eurostar, according to ASLEF website] they get £44,500 pa.
