According to the give away papers there's supposed to be 10,000 people descending on the Circle Line tomorrow for the last party before the booze ban comes into effect.What's the odds of the entire Circle being suspended tomorrow evening due to crew shortage(sickness)?

This single page website... www.lastordersontheunderground.com...has info on "The Final Circle Line Party" - which is apparently to start at 9pm on the clockwise platform (i.e. outer rail) at Liverpool St station, with revellers directed to join the rear of the train. This thing has been kicking up a fair bit of buzz online on social networking websites, blogs and the like, but I'm not sure how the hack got the figure of 10,000 people - perhaps it's the number of members of the relevant Facebook group? Perhaps they just made it up! Has the potential to cause a good degree of disruption I suppose. I doubt that any of the attendees will be trouble makers per se, it seems very much intended to be a jocular happening as opposed to being anything more sinister. I guess it rather depends on how many people pitch up at the same time. We shall see... |

About 8,500 had RSVPed 'Yes' to the main Facebook event page. Several other people had the same idea and listed their own events, which probably easily gets you to 10,000.

Whilst waiting at King's Cross for a Barking train,an OR Circle came in around 20:20 packed to the rafters with empty beer cans everywhere,was already getting rowdy train was held for about 5minutes,BTP eventually got on and dragged a couple of people off.There was also hordes waiting at Liverpool Street,don't know how long they'll have to wait for a Circle,the one I saw at King's Cross was reversed at Moorgate!!!

I note that Liverpool Street is now closed due to overcrowding; and the OR has a faulty train at Notting Hill Gate.
Must be absolute hell with the revellers.

It's usually the "party animals" who'd turn up for the opening of a paper bag who cause the trouble,they're the same ones who trash houses when a party is put on the internet.

It was chaos. It started out good-naturedly enough this afternoon but by 2100 I was getting my doors held at every station, drunken people leaning out dangerously close pulling into platforms etc. I ended up detraining with police assistance - i'd have been lynched doing it alone. Once the train was empty you couldn't see the floor for fag-ends and bottles and cans. The abuse I took from the "revellers" was nasty.

But who is going to actually enforce the ban? Which member of staff is going to challenge 20, 10, 5, or even just 2 drunken idiots? And who is going to be happy about delaying a train for 15 minutes to an hour to wait for the BTP to attend? This is the problem with the ban - actually getting it enforced.
Oh - and Embankment is now added to the list of stations closed due to pax incident.

Do gateline staff and T/ops want even more aggro than they receive at present? I think not.
It doesnt take a genius to put alcohol in a coloured soft drink bottle.

I'm impressed by the resilience of C and D stock ceilings to having chants drummed out on them. Note to hooligans - C stocks have far more reachable places to bang on. I also got to do Tower Hill-Aldgate East on a C stock. 7007, 7008 and 5584 need new maps and adverts put in. |

I look forward to the "feet on seats" ban, the "smelly food ban" the "loud MP3 player" ban, the "no buskers ban", the the "Roma with child begging ban"; but doubt it. I would hope all LU staff hold every train where drinkers are suspected of being on, but, surprise surprise (and you couldn't make it up), LU's advice to staff is that trains must not be delayed....

That was Boris and LU wasn't it? LU said no extra staff were rostered so no wonder I had to walk from the closed Embankment station at 2330 to Holborn.

Putting politics aside, I feel desperately sorry for all the staff involved. Dealing with drunken morons is a miserable task. I wouldn't mind betting that BTP take little or no action against these so-called revellers.

But - was it inevitable? Yes, even without the social networking sites. It could have been worse: remember the alcoholic 'dinner parties' on the Central, and other events? They weren't repeated yesterday,and only one line was (directly) affected. No extra staff - - how many would you have needed actually to make a difference? ALL TfL staff AND ALL BTP I suspect...... And it was only for one night. But the comment above about some morons gatecrashing others' parties sums it up precisely. Some folk's brains seem hard-wired to cause trouble and if not on the Circle it's just elsewhere |

Last night was a shambles, the last trains were getting back to Upminster an hour late!
On a lighter note, I was night spare and went to Elm Park to relieve a late running driver, and a group of people came to the station to take photo's holding beer cans and wanted me in the shots as a uniformed member of staff.

The staff at KX who cleared the train did a good job with just the right touch. As you say, its a shame that a minority of idiots spoiled it. As for staff. I don't envy them having to try and enforce the ban, which seems to owe more to a 'look - I'm doing something' attitude on the part of our new Mayor. It certainly doesn't stop drunks getting on the tube. |
