What is happening this weekend - trains cannot reverse at Burnt Oak, so they must be running empty to Edgware.

Yep, trains are detraining at Burnt Oak, running empty to Edgware, then running South to entrain at Burnt Oak.
It is due to the refurb work being done at Edgware station.

Well, I hope they leave them benches along under the stairs at EDG. Perhaps they might sort out the windows on the footbridge and stair treads to platform 1; some were horribly cracked last time I was there.

They could have had some trains terminating at Colindale.

Would the Rail Replacement bus work better/integrate smoother into the service at Burnt Oak (station), rather than Colindale (random bus stop near station, possibly?)? How infrequently is the turnback used at Colindale these days, if its use is irregular that might also be a factor in favouring Burnt Oak?
edit: looking at WTT 51 (24/7/07, last-before-current) I see that there is only one booked reverser in there on weekdays, which is a Golders - Colindale shortie, off Golders 0522½.

And that's booked to run empty, there's one in WTT52 that does the same. Apart from that Colindale reversers are used as a service recovery method but are not timetabled. You couldn't reverse the full normal service at Colindale as there is only one reversing siding as against 3 platforms at Edgware, so everything going round there would either lead to blocking back or to a significantly reduced service. Plus tipping out at Burnt Oak and running empty to Edgware can be done with train service and duties on the normal WTT52 rather than having to have special working.....which is easier all round I think.

You'll laugh at my idiocy.... When I keyed in my last post on this board I'd got the idea in my mental map of the Northern Line that it goes Edgware, Colindale, Burnt Oak....... *goes off in a high state of embarrassment* ;D I really ought to know this, because I've been looking a lot at the perils for that neck of the woods for when the signalling was modernised in the early 70s, not to mention the 40+ Northern WTTs I've got. Oops.
