How many compressors will these trains have? The current LU rules state that at least two compressors must be operable at all times, and that a train will be removed from service ASAP if a compressor fails.
prjb has said that the S stock will be formed of 4+4 and 4+3 trains, with the 2009TS presumably being formed of 4+4 as well. Given that, and given modern compressor design, would it not be a good idea to provide more than two compressors per train to not only improve reliability but allow the air supply to be charged as fast as possible, thus giving the best possible braking performance?

From what I understand, there will be less reliance on air on the new stocks - equipment such as window wipers will be soley in the hands of electricity. On that basis, I don't think there will be any need to upgrade the use of compressors.

AIUI, the compressor for the 09TS will be on the B car (the trailer) while on the S Stock, it will be on the DM car. The doors will be electric so a lot less air will be required. Compressors will be fed at 400 vAC, 3 phase, off the auxiliary converter.

If they can arrange a tbc to operate in a similar way to the accelerator pedal on a car for motoring it's not beyond the realms of possibility to make the braking part work hydraulic brake cylinders likewise is it? They took hydraulics off trains as a result of the post KX fire safety review. They regard them as a fire risk.

LU move customers from A to B, they used to do it via 'C'.

Seems a retrograde step to me,in the event of a burst there'll only be one compressor for a whole train, sounds like a sure recipe for overheating and smouldering. Can someone also explain why these new trains have to be powered down when traction current goes off for any length of time? Why can't they be like conventional trains and everything start up when current is restored? All this b*****ing around with footpumps is a pain in the a*** and only exacerbates delays.

There are no foot pumps on 09ts or 'S' stock, and no similar device for this purpose either.
