Standing at Colindale this morning there were only three trains showing initially on the describer - not too unusual - but despite the line supposedly having a "Good Service". there were initially no times showing with them.
I don't know about anyone else but I would have thought there should be times with them, especially if there is a good service.

Did they all come close together? After quite a long wait for the first one, times started to appear and they were close together.

Were you on the SB plat? If you were then the DMI was most likely waiting for them to depart from Edgware.

that is most likely the case PMRNORTHERN when i go to work i take the northern to stockwell then the Victoria line north while standing waiting for a train at stockwell the DMI shows 13 minutes when it is a good service this is because the train is only pulling into brixton then all of a sudden it will change to 2 minutes when the driver has "logged" into the system i suspect this is what happened with yourself at colindale correct me if i am wrong guys

On the Central if I am waiting at West Acton EB and even though the train hasn't left EAB yet it still shows the arrival time, assuming the train departs on time (which usually they do)

On the older lines it all depends on where the TD store picks up numbers from, many locations work in different ways! That's LUL for now anyway ;D

yeah it is a bit of a pain when we get a call from a station telling us there is a VIP on train xxx we go right thanks for that then when we try and locate the train on trackernet it is hopelss as majority of district and circle trains do not show up with the train number a district train is shown as DIS and a circle shows as CIR so we need to guess what train they are on in this day and age why cant things be more simple!!!

If only things were more high tech, eh!! It is currently impossible to show you the train number. What is wrong with asking the station what time they got on the train, working out the time it takes to get to your station and getting there a few minutes before to avoid a delay an item of delay? Hey! That could even be an example of Problem Solving at an LUL Interview! ;D ;D You station and management lot rely on this Tracker far too much! Its much better when it doesnt work! ;D ;D

That would have been friday night, and all is revealed when you look in the timetable for the weekend engineering works, specifically at the consequential alterations on a friday night Hopefully this all makes sense.......... The driver of train 110 (the last Richmond), rather than bringing a fresh train out of Upminster depot for 110, picks up train 56 at Upminster platform, and runs in the same path as train 4 (the last Ealing, as far as Earls Court). Train 4 runs five minutes earlier, in the path of train 110 to Turnham Green, then 5 minutes earlier throughout on the rest of it's journey to Ealing. Given that the driver of train 110 (or 56 in the context of this thread) is an Earls Court night driver, he would have known full well what was going on - the train 4 driver is an Acton late turn, so they'd likely be less aware. The reason train 110 wouldn't have run on friday night is that with the District suspended West Ken - Richmond/Acton, we'd have a train stabled all weekend at Richmond with no access to it.........so it doesn't run and we don't loose a train. Moral of the story: station staff should use the WTT (and special WTT's where applicable) and throw trackernet in the bin. EDIT: oopss that's another thread thats drifted onto the District line even though it's in another lines board ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Mitcham when I worked on the station we didn't have trackernet where I was, Dot Matrix's, Connect or anything like that... and with it being quite a busy station with lots of connections we often had VIP's to attend to... and like JTD said, when we received a call from say Embankment, for example, we worked out the time and looked out for the VIP arriving... and hey it never went wrong!
The other day I picked a VIP up on the first car at Hammersmith got to Ealing nobody to meet him.. I walked him up to the station forecourt myself then told the station staff... they thought he was coming on the Central line ha ha

Hmm! I can see both sides to this. We use trackernet quite a bit and it's a really handy tool especially when things go up the wall, managing football crowds or the DMI has a 'funny 5 minutes' as referred to in earlier posts. You then can relay real-time info to the punters. However as JTD and HB point out when meeting VIP's working out the time of arrival is much easier rather than rely on trackernet, which is the way we do it. Granted on the Vic its probably easier to guess an ETA, but a rough estimate of 2 mins per stop its easy to work out.

Is the meeting of VIPs by station staff a common occurance then? Without breaching anybody's personal security, in general terms, what kind of person would constitute a VIP for these purposes and what is the purpose of specific staff meeting them?
I'm not trying to pry here, but I would have thought that if someone was THAT important, or that much of a security concern, then there might be easier ways to transport them than on the underground
