Don't suppose anyone knows what construction work is going on on the old "Brockley Hill" site?
There's something going on, in all likelihood flats knowing the council. Which is just silly IMHO. I still maintain that Brockley Hill is a far better spot to terminate the Northern line, on the edge of the green belt, and with far better road links (a dual carriageway, for one thing) that Edgware's town-centre location. It's funny, most people claim the green belt killed the extension, but I have a quote from Frank Pick at the time welcoming the green belt, as it would enable a different type of lighter traffic on the extension, which would not have required require a great deal of peak time capacity.
C'est la vie, I guess.

A major reason for the planned extension beyond Edgware was to get to where land could be purchased for a Northern Line depot with proper facilities, instead of the very cramped area at Golders Green.
After the war, money for government projects was in very short supply. LT was lucky to get funding to complete the Central extensions. It could hardly argue that the new Northern depot was essential, as it had managed with its existing depots since 1941.
