I am referring to the off-peak service between there and Arnos Grove. Did it commence at the same time that all-day, but infrequent, running to Uxbridge was reinstated in September 1996?

When they thought "hey... that Rayners train is running a minute late... lets send it to Northfields instead" .... sometimes there seems to be more bloody Northfields trains than ones going up the Rayners branch!

When they thought "hey... that Rayners train is running a minute late... lets send it to Northfields instead" .... sometimes there seems to be more bloody Northfields trains than ones going up the Rayners branch! I think during the week roughly every third train runs into Northfields depot following the peak and every fourth train on a Sunday. That is how it was more or less four or five years ago. It was a real headache trying to work on a failure at the entrance to the depot!

There are 3tph an hour off peak Northfields trains nowadays. In the peak they are used as part of the 12tph service to the Rayner's branch. As to when they started - PASS! When they thought "hey... that Rayners train is running a minute late... lets send it to Northfields instead" .... sometimes there seems to be more bloody Northfields trains than ones going up the Rayners branch! Just you wait until 27 March! ;D ;D

In the past, short workings have been scheduled for Acton Town, or even further back, Barons Court. There were Acton Town reversers between the peaks in the mid 90's for sure.

Proved wrong It's cos all the new staff are so good ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I take back what I said! With the extra run time late running is less than what it used to be, and run time is going t be extended a lot more in the next WTT, along with Stepping Back at Arnos You still get the 30 min gaps to T5 or T4 and lots of trains reversing at Northfields International mind! He's a signalman, he's most probably holding things somewhere and forgotten about them ;D Ssshhhh!!!! Granted, today was pretty rubbish (Signal problems @ Arnos), but I've not heard of any gaps of this nature since the new timetable started. could you elaborate please?

The current round of Northfields reversers began with the infamous service increases from WTT 31 - 22.7.96. Then there was a 2½-min service through the central area, in the 20-minute pattern Heathrow/Northfields/Heathrow/Rayners Lane/Heathrow/Northfields/Heathrow/Uxbridge. Northfields reversers were then every 10 mins - alternately via the depot and the west siding.
From WTT 37 of 20.5.01 after the morning peak, Northfields reversers reduced to 3tph instead of 6tph, but 6tph resumed from around 12.30.
WTT 38 from 29.9.02 saw Northfields reversers every 20 mins Mon-Fri but there was still 6tph on Sats/Suns from 12.30 to 19.30.
WTT 40 - 10.1.05 - saw Northfields reversers reduced to 3tph on Saturdays and Sundays as well.
