There was a driver missing for a reverser at Arnos was what I heard on the gateline! That meant of course the platform was blocked, everything stacking up behind, etc, etc, etc...

Couldn't someone have stuck it in the sidings, out of the way?

Couldn't someone have stuck it in the sidings, out of the way? Unfortunately I don't think it's that simple. You can't just take a train out of service...

I don't think there was an operator to take the train into the sidings. Can't the other platforms be used for North/Southbound trains with a few delays? Obviously the Northfields trains would either have to be short worked (to Bounds/Wood Green) or extended to Oakwood.

When there has been disruption on the Central, trains without crew reliefs are often "put away" in Woodford sidings until the next shift books on to pick them up. Obviously, it's far simpler on the Picc to leave the train where it is and disrupt the line, while people stand around working out what to do with it!

Obviously the Northfields trains would either have to be short worked (to Bounds/Wood Green) or extended to Oakwood. Well, yes, that is what happened - the delay was not because there were *no* platforms, but because the one platform was out of commission for a few minutes longer than expected - meaning other trains are limited to one. The trains then stack up in the tunnels behind, which is the actual cause of the delay. There's a limited amount you can do at that point - trains turning at Wood Green have to be tipped out fully, causing further delays to the ones behind. Trains turning at Oakwood occupy the Eastbound platform for too long and, unless there is an awful lot of congestion at Cockfosters, it doesn't really gain you very much. Blah, blah, blah, all my interpretation, could be wrong.
