A few things that might interest you all.
Connect SHOULD have gone live on 15th October, but has been pushed back again. The rumours were that it was going to happen yesterday, but it hasn't. I spoke to a Motorola man yesterday, who had just got off a test train and he said it was working "swimmingly". Read into that what you will. We have also been asked to return our hand held radios for a software update.
Also, all drivers have now been issued with a DVD of the T5 extension, to enable us to get some idea of what to expect when trains start running through in January. Along with this there are two other DVD's, one showing the whole main line, with commentary describing the reasons why certain signals may be at danger, with the other disk showing how to complete all the reversing moves.
Finally, the door chimes have been modified so that they continue playing until the doors have closed, rather than stopping before they closed. I must say it does seem to have reduced the amount of passengers doing the kamikaze leap.

I was one of the I/O's involved in the training and implimentation of Connect on the DR and I have to say that it was always a 'fluid' situation - but relied very much on the skill and co-operation of the whole team involved - and by this I mean EVERYONE - Management, trainers, T/Ops and the Connect people. All were top rate and we really did a job! I know there have been issues revolving round OPO alarms (and I agree that's disappointing) but there are always updates going on. Mind AFAIK there have been no recalls of handhelds with 'us' - though train software has been refined. And that's involved with the 'Professional Train Operators Agreement' as agreed by the Unions +/- 5 years ago. This requires trainstaff to 'self refresh' and the DVD is a means to this - no more 'can't do that move' excuses - you familiarise yourselves! Unhappy? Ask your Union! They signed up to it some years ago now (you gained financially by some 'good' amount).

Do the door chimes still sound for as long as you hold down the close button...? Yes they do. They now keep playing until the doors have closed.

Do the door chimes still sound for as long as you hold down the close button...? Yes they do. They now keep playing until the doors have closed. I thought they've done that for ages?
