So Gloucester Road Station is closed this weekend. Piccadilly trains not stopping. I assume it’s to do with the planned engineering works on the Circle & District Lines?

As the station and ticket hall are being used for access by engineering teams working on the District track

Really? I’m guessing there must be some serious work going on, since it’s not normally closed for engineering work.

Incidentally, I was at neighbouring South Kensington station this evening, and it was quite bad - loads of people trying to cram onto a Piccadilly train already crammed as if it was rush-hour. A necessary cost of engineering work!

What exactly is the trackwork this weekend? First time in 30 years in living in the area I can remember Chelsea playing at home on a weekend with no district line, let alone Gloucester Road also totally closed. Compounded by the fact their opponents tomorrow have many supporters travelling from the other end of the district line, Earls Court station will be bedlam tomorrow afternoon.

Track replacement Gloucester Road-South Kensington; after the long standing drainage work and speed restriction in that area. Also preparation work Earl’s Court-High Street.
Certainly have been previous Chelsea and Fulham home games with no District service, the Earl’s Court Christmas blockade a few years ago was a notable one.

As Dstock7080 says, there have definitely been weekend games at Chelsea (and Fulham) in the past that have been affected by engineering closures - this weekend is absolutely not the first time!

Many people will see the railway being partially closed at the same time as the football as something of an own goal.
People are constantly advised to use public transport - but when they try to do this ... they cant.
OK the work needs doing but nevertheless it does not create the best public relations image

With the amount of events in London, it's not always possible to avoid them all.
There are certain events that must be avoided, such as the Notting Hill carnival, or the Marathon, for example. But with all the football, Rugby, Cricket, Tennis, concerts, etc, etc, that go on.......something is bound to clash at some point....

And major engineering work is typically planned much further in advance than football matches are.
