Given the contents of the sign, I'm going to guess either Finchley Road or Barons Court.

Based on that former prefix I think that’s West Hampstead

West Hampstead, north end of the northbound platform, A stock could not go into the reversing siding.

4-car trains of A stock still fitted in W.Hampstead siding around the turn of the century - see 'What Can Run Where?' article in the July 2008 edition of Underground News.

And for those who can't understand how a Surface Stock train could get to the NB platform at West Hampstead to need this sign, there used to be a crossover from NB Met to NB Jubilee just north of Finchley Road. Removed quite a while ago, perhaps around the time the Jubilee was resignalled for TBTC or an enabling work for that.

I think that crossover disappeared promptly after the Camden Town junction derailment in 2003, being of similar design. The reversing route from the southbound Met platform at Finchley Road to the northbound Jubilee lasted until TBTC installation, and was once promised to be retained.

There was also the NB Met to NB Bakerloo crossover to the south of Finchley Road, used by the CO/CP Stock Rail Tour.

I remember mid-70s off-peak an A stock stuck in Finchley Road northbound platform with locked wheels with the breakdown gang working on it. The northbound Mets worked via that crossover through the Bakerloo platform, regaining the Met just north of West Hampstead on another now removed crossover! That allowed freight from Finchley Road goods yard to regain the northbound Met. The Bakerloo Stanmore service left room for these, unlike current more frequent Jubilee service.

It did indeed - it was one of several which had similar geometry and were designated 'Controlled Switches'. Another was No. 17 crossover at Hammersmith, which was plain lined, reinstated, and then plain lined again a couple of weeks ago, this time as CBTC enabling works.

At the ends of the day it was common to see Met trains shown 'all stations to Wembley Park, not stopping at Dollis Hill' since they served the Bakerloo stations but crossed to the Met at the northern connection out of Willesden Green goods yard, serving Neasden Met platform. Or they could continue on the local line to Neasden and to depot, or to Wembley Park and back to depot, or connect to the Met north of Wembley Park station.

The Finchley Road goods yard had close before the A Stock arrived on the Metropolitan Line, I visited Finchley Road Signal Cabin in August 1963 and the only evidence from the goods yard days was some white painted push pull levers in the signal frame.

Entry and exit to the goods yard may have been removed, but that crossover from Jubilee to Met northbound remained at West Hampstead until preparations for TBTC resignalling. The goods yard became a station car park close to central London before redevelopment.
