Also thinking about whistles and reading some of the various threads. The 1938 tube stock has a deep 'hooter' whereas most more modern stock seems to have a higher (or much higher) pitched whistle.
Now wondering about older Underground trains. The standard stock moved to the Isle of Wight was apparently given whistles from SR 6-PUL and 6-PAN units. What sort of whistle did the standard stock and older trains originally have?
The thread above mentions a variety of sounds from older trains. Are any of these recorded or available to listen to on the internet?

The whistle you are hearing is most likely to be the low whistle rather than the high one as there are two settings in the cab.

The high-pitched whistle from the Standard Stock was very characteristic of my uncle's garden near Hainault depot in the 50s. A rather anaemic sound compared with the N7s "whistling up" the gatekeeper at Chingford Hatch level crossing that I was used to..
