Maybe it's always done this but I only started noticing it the last couple of months. In the evening peak, the platform displays on the Piccadilly line at Kings Cross (eastbound, at least) seem to semi-regularly display excessive wait times for the trains.
The first time I saw that I assumed the line was severely disrupted, but it turned out it was running normally and the displayed wait times were simply wrong. It seems to be not uncommon these days for a train to come into the platform while the display is still showing that it's 2 minutes away!
Anyone know why this happens?

It's not just kings cross, this happened to me at an other Piccadilly line station recently.

I've experienced this for quite a few months now at stations further down the line. It doesn't appear to be accurate until it gets down to about 3 minutes. Anything displayed as being longer than 3 minutes away will drop down quickly and I find usually skips saying 4 minutes altogether.
Still (and not sure if this applies to Kings Cross or just my regular stations), before it used to do this, a train would only show on the board at all if it was 4 minutes away or less..

It's not just the Piccadilly Line. The other day I was at Rickmansworth. First it said 3 mins, jumped to 5 mins then jumped to 1 min.

When I saw this headline I thought, "Ah! So someone else has seen it". But not so -- my experience (twice in the last month; I'm not a regular user) was KX EB Met/H&C/Circle. Quite consistent displays of 1 or even 2 minutes' wait when the train was actually pulling in to the platform.

I've also experienced this at Holloway Road going eastbound, several times over the last few months. The platform display says the next train is 10 or 12 minutes away, then suddenly it's 2 or 3 minutes.
Naturally I assumed that there's some local distortion in the space/time continuum, which is the only explanation that makes sense...!

In fact, looking a bit more closely this evening, not only does the display pretty consistently show 2 minutes as the train enters the platform, but "STAND BACK - TRAIN APPROACHING" only appears once the train is almost completely on the platform, just a couple of seconds before it comes to a halt. Something's definitely not right here.

Make a complaint unless a member of staff raises this as a job for the relevant team to look at it the sign will carry on being wrong

I notice this quite a lot. The worst station is I think Hyde Park Corner WB but a lot of them do say 2 minutes when I reach the station.

At Shepherd's Bush Market last week, there was no train showing Eastbound. After a couple of minutes a train pulled into Goldhawk Road. Still no train showing. The train departed from Goldhawk Road, and as it approached SBM, the indicator changed to 'Barking 2 mins'. It was still showing this as the train departed.
Probably just teething troubles.

I've mentioned the ludicrous behaviour (indicating 'Upminster 1 min', then 'Upminster', then 'District Line Eastbound/No Smoking', then the actual destination of the next train - often several minutes later) of the eastbound District line describer at Hammersmith here before. It's been behaving like that for more than a quarter of a century. And I get the impression from LU staff who've responded to my posts about it that they don't see it as a problem.

That is a different system and has been well documented before

That is a different system and has been well documented before Yes, but my point is that neither LU, nor many of the respondents here, seem to think it of the slightest importance that a system has been regularly feeding passengers with false information for more than 25 years. So why would anyone expect them to care if any other indicator gives incorrect information?
