As a long time lurker I finally felt it was time to post.
Can somebody explain the purpose of the blockade around Harrow on the Hill over the Easter weekend. The twitter feed suggested it was to do with pointwork and approach speeds?
On my most recent journey on Tuesday there appeared to be many orange people on the track still working (especially on the slow lines north of HotH). There also appeared to be lots of new ballast, some grey cables and some points appear to have been freshly painted white again.
What effects will it have on journeys and/or the timetable and was it in any way connected with the ATC signalling upgrades?

What is the new layout at Harrow South? The scissor crossover south of platforms five and six has been removed and replaced by two separate crossovers slightly further south (so that they are on a straight section of line).

I had noticed the changes (visually) south of platform 5 and 6, but having ridden on a slow train, arriving at platform 6 and changing to the slow line, the train still shakes quite a bit over the points, as before with the scissors.

Speeds gone from 20/25 up to line speed south of Harrow over the points/all routes.

Also gone are the movable angles on 203 points when it was part of the scissors crossover.

Am I correct in assuming that is the last moveable angle points on the LU network?

I had noticed the changes (visually) south of platform 5 and 6, but having ridden on a slow train, arriving at platform 6 and changing to the slow line, the train still shakes quite a bit over the points, as before with the scissors. Lateral displacement issue, which was there before the works were carried out. Not really much you can do because of the curve/gradient out of Harrow, but it's better than what it was from a driving perspective. We have replaced our old knackered points with shiny new Surelocks (which is what allows us to run over them at increased speeds): Speeds gone from 20/25 up to line speed south of Harrow over the points/all routes. Departing Platform 6 and proceeding down the SB fast was always 30mph, going up to 60mph once clear of the points. If going over to the SB local, it was 20mph over the points. Departing Platform 5 and proceeding down the SB local was previously 30mph, including over the points, resuming to 50mph once clear of the points. If going over to the SB fast, it was 20mph over the points. We can now depart at 50mph from both platforms.

The Harrow TOs were rather glad we did the junction - they hated both the Clamplock mechanisms that were previously used and the position of the crossover on a curve. This is a much better arrangement from both an Engineering perspective and a staff safety perspective.
