upgrading to a southeastern high speed service

Hi, i currently hold an anytime day single from London (Any except st pancras) to canterbury east or west. I have been informed that these can be upgraded to a high speed service if i pay an additional fare. Do you know if this is possible for travelling from London as the website says into London. Person on the phone informed me that this is possible but the website isnt so clear.
