If the red tiles are actually red then I still think that it is Bethnal Green. I am trying to think what other stations from the 35/40 era had red tiles. No idea which castle though.

I'll have a punt at Wanstead for the main.

The fact that I hadn't realised that Wanstead has red tiles on the trackside, shows that I prefer to sit to see the platforms. Why Wanstead? No sure. But it is on the last line to be opened before the railways were nationalised on 1 Janaury 1948.

It's not related to nationalisation or any other event in 1948.

Actually, looking at the castle again, is it Goodrich Castle (or something like that) near to Ross and Monmouth?

No, the castle is not that close to the England-Wales border.
