I made a special journey to photograph one of these insets, so I'll be very disappointed if you don't even attempt to identify them.

All right - inset B looks like a station on the Great Western Main Line, with electrification work in progress. Possibly Burnham?
Inset A, even at maximum magnification I can't make out the type of train in the distance, but the absence of gangway ends limits the scope somewhat, and the presence of a "1-car" stop suggests a line also served by class 153s. The long goods loops remind me of Barnetby?
Inset C - that steeple looks familiar, and the lower quadrant signal puts us probably in GWR territory, but on a line not yet with multiple aspect signalling. (Or is that signal actually to do with the waterway? - it's difficult to see where a railway line would fit)

And the link - they all involve temporary footbridges?

norbitonflyer : You are in the right sort of areas but not spot on. You do get the versions below though. Inset A: (click for a larger version) Inset B: (click for a larger version) Inset C: (click for a larger version) steeevooo gets the points for the link for what I think is their first entry into the quiz Link: These locations all have or had temporary footbridges

C: in the heart of GWR territory, but nothing to do with the railway, despite the lower quadrant signal! I thought it looked vaguely Bristolian although I don't know the city well. Google Street View confirms it as the Prince Street Bridge
B: I was close - it's Taplow (at 125 mph they tend to blend into each other!)
A: not a clue

Inset C is Brizzle docks isn't it?
Is it Brunel Link? NXG takes you up to the Brunel Tunnel Kenton (??)

Inset D looks like Battersea Park (presumably last years Formula e race as I don't think they've started setting up for this years one)
NF - the train in inset A looks like a 150/1 to me, so it could be almost anywhere on Northern, LM, or GWR
Out of interest, which was inset was it that required the special journey?

Is Pontoon Dock closest station to the Napier Yard where the Great Eastern was built?

C: in the heart of GWR territory, but nothing to do with the railway, despite the lower quadrant signal! I thought it looked vaguely Bristolian although I don't know the city well. Google Street View confirms it as the Prince Street Bridge Inset C is Brizzle docks isn't it? Background C: Bristol - temporary footbridge over floating harbour during repair to Prince Street Bridge in early May 2016 [Chris M] (click for a larger version) B: I was close - it's Taplow (at 125 mph they tend to blend into each other!) Inset B: Taplow railway station - Westbound freight train passing under the temporary footbridge in late April 2016 [Chris M] (click for a larger version) Inset A is not Taplow. Inset D looks like Battersea Park (presumably last years Formula e race as I don't think they've started setting up for this years one) Inset D: Temporary footbridge in Battersea Park for 2015 Formula E Grand Prix [Chris M] NF - the train in inset A looks like a 150/1 to me, so it could be almost anywhere on Northern, LM, or GWR I can't identify the train (I was photographing the footbridge not the train!) but it is on one of those routes. Is it Brunel Link? NXG takes you up to the Brunel Tunnel Kenton (??) Is Pontoon Dock closest station to the Napier Yard where the Great Eastern was built? The link has already been identified as relating to temporary footbridges, the Brunel connections are coincidental. The former Napier Yard (now mostly housing) is about equidistant from Mudchute and Island Gardens stations. I live over the road and typically use Island Gardens when going south and Mudchute when going north (but often Mudchute when returning from the south as there are no steps that way!) Out of interest, which was inset was it that required the special journey? Taplow is the place I specifically visited for this question, but I made a day of it and walked to Maidenhead - the photo of Brunel's bridge that appeared recently was taken on the same day. The other insets are ones with temporary footbridges that happen to be in my collection - the Bristol one was taken after I planned the question though and was rather a lucky find as I didn't know the temporary bridge was there. Inset A dates from April 2011. The question was planned when I realised that I had photographs of temporary bridges at at least 3 locations (A, B and C) and was originally going to be an odd one out, until I remembered the temporary bridge at Pontoon Dock for the Olympics/Paralympics. I have a few shots of the station from the temporary bridge, but this is the only one I have of any of the bridge itself I can find, taken after a day with a mutli ticket to ExCeL - I went this way home specifically to take photos from the temporary pontoon across the Royal Victoria Dock (and was part of the reason I bought a ticket to ExCeL!).
