Hi I'm wondering if someone could explain which axle on a Class 378 are powered.
I understand that the basic configuration is DMOS-MOS-PTOS-MOS-DMOS but I seem to vaguely recall that not all the axles on the DMOS and MOS are powered, so would some be kind enough to explain.

On another forum someone has said that three axles are powered on each motor coach. On the DMOS the unpowered axle is the endmost one (this makes sense as it is the one which is most likely to encounter ice or other slippy stuff and will clean the rail for the wheels behind to get a grip. (This is also why BR switched from the traditional power bogie at each end (traditional SR arrangement up to the Class 41X designs) to having two in the middle car (42x and all ac units) Also why in winter the Bournemouth line ran TC-REP-TC instead of TC-TC-REP (this meant only four cars could go to Weymouth but that was usually enough in the winter)

Ah ok thanks.
What about the MOS? Which of the bogies has two powered axels and which only has one? I.e. is the semi powered bogie on the end of the MOS closer to the PTOS or the DMOS?

Both MOS are in the same configuration as the DMOS they are next to such that each bogie alternates between a semi-powered then a fully powered bogie.
