Guessing that's the boundary between LUL's Metropolitan line and Chiltern Railways - I think the signal we're looking at the back of is JW1. What are they calling it now? Mantles Wood? Weedonhill Wood?

Approximately 750 metres North of Amersham station looking towards Mantles Wood boundary, (view from footpath crossing of path which runs from Hervines Park towards Old Amersham. )

The green signal in the distance is JW70 Don't be fooled by the schematic diagram, JW70 is quite a way outside of Amersham station. Next up is actually, these days, ME375R, the distant signal for ME375 (ME = Marylebone IECC). ME375 itself is actually quite close to Great Missenden, a long way from Amersham, and its distant (ME375R) is about one minute's journey time in rear of it, something like that (probably closer to 50 seconds at full line speed). The one in the foreground is JW1, it has to be, you can see its trainstop. JW1 only has one repeater these days, I believe, but its a bit further on from this crossing and obviously doesn't have a trainstop Anyway, it's a beautiful picture PS: I can tell you as much as that the radio channel switches to Marylebone IECC about 2 minutes' journey time from Amersham and ME375R is very approximately another two minutes' journey time on from then

So based on this new information, in this photo taken north of that crossing, the signal just ahead of this southbound Chiltern ECS working must be RJW1/2.

That's RJW1, yeah, I think so You can tell it's a repeater(/distant) by its yellow identification plate. There's only one repeater(/distant) for JW1 left, though, so it's just RJW1, I believe.

Interesting. I can't work out how it's plated at the moment. JW1 is four-aspect, so, of course, the aspect of JW1 is dependent on JW2 (and, actually, JW5). The aspects of both JW1 and JW2 do, therefore, affect the aspect of this repeater. It is three aspect: YGY. If JW1 is red, this repeater will be single yellow regardless. If JW1 is yellow (and, therefore, necessarily, JW2 is red), this repeater will be double yellow. If JW1 is double yellow (and, therefore, JW2 is yellow and JW5 is red), this repeater will be green. Obviously, if JW1 is green (and, therefore, JW2 is double yellow or better and JW5 is single yellow or better), this repeater will be green as well.
So, yes, from a certain point of view, the repeater's aspect is governed by both JW1 and JW2, although it will show green if JW2 is yellow. I'd be interested to find out for certain and I'm happy to be proved wrong, but I think it behaves like a Network Rail distant for JW1 and I suspect it's plated RJW1.
