Every bogie on S Stock has this printed on each side.
What does it mean?
And why is it necessary for it to be printed on each bogie rather than included in the training of those staff for whom it's relevant.

I think that it refers to the jacking point on the lower sides of the coach body. The total train is jacked up for maintenance with the bogies still attached which is now common practice on UK railways for newer stock.

I've assumed it was a note that the hole was to be used only for the car stand and no other purpose (not that I can think what other purpose that would be)

I think it has to do with ERU as well as if they ever did need to jack the train for any reason.
