Provably gear box noise on the drive from the traction motor FISH7373 No gearbox as such is fitted, two motors positioned back to back drive directly into each one of the original Schoma axles via short cardan shafts. yes thats right the traction motors are frame mounted. FISH7373

There are all sorts of curious noises on the video and I wasn't able to determine what was what - compressor noise, converter noise or gearbox noise. Yes there are gearboxes, although another term might be "right angle drives" to take to motion from the cardan shaft and turn it though 90 degrees, probably as a reduction gear too.

All sorts of noise how do we know it was coming from the LUL loco ? Are you suggesting that Class 31 was giving it a helping hand?

No but the class 31 could have had its engine running. There is no sound of an idling engine (12SVT or anything else) when the train stops.

Even if the class 31 was dead, it would still have been driving its motors though the wheels. Hence there might be some class 31 gearbox noise.

There were some photographs on Facebook of some of the converted locomotives being returned by road recently. Look up 'UK trains on trucks'.

Apart from Ruislip depot obviously, where else are these locos usually seen? I have seen the occasional one at Lille Bridge, but that is about it.
