Just been looking at the weekend service on my TubeMap app, and notice for the Overground it says 'A special service will operate between Willesden Junction and Stratford via Queens Park' for Sunday. Looking at CartoMetro, would I be right in thinking this means they will be going between South Hampstead and Camden Road via the Primrose Hill junction? How unusual a move is that? And does it occur in (or out of!) passenger service very often?

And does it occur in (or out of!) passenger service very often? It is not unique - it has been done on previous engineering weekends (notably during the upgrade work a few years back), but it is a rare chance to do that stretch.

You are correct about the routing. It happens not infrequently in passenger service during engineering works, and I think occasionally during disruption too.
A few years ago (2008?) a Watford-Stratford ran for a period and proved very popular. So much so that such a service is likely to be introduced permanently if/when it becomes practical to do so.

Oh, cool thanks guys. It's not something I've know to occur before, but I've only been in London a couple of years, and am not a hughly regular user of LO. I think I will do the journey this Sunday as the opportunity is there!

It is worth doing to see the expression on peoples faces when the train turns up at South Hampstead! It's not a designated route so the on-board announcements are switched off. The train crawls along very slowly between those sections though.
