Due to the closure of the terminating platforms at London Bridge, LO services to New Cross are diverted to Crystal Palace to maintain the 12tph service on the Sydenham line lost from the lack of Southern services on weekdays.
Rail Replacement buses will operate between Canada Water and New Cross with a normal service at weekends.

Would it not be better to do the rail replacement bus as a shuttle up and down the Old Kent Road between New Cross and New Cross Gate. This would require fewer buses, and would lead to much faster overall journey times.

This would require fewer buses, and would lead to much faster overall journey times. As a lot of people change at Canada Water to the Jubilee Line and trains via NXG are already full to bursting point it actually makes sense to offer displaced New Cross passengers a direct service to Canada Water. It reduces the risk of yet more overloading on West Croydon / Crystal Palace services which will be fuller than ever because of the London Bridge works.

The bus service also makes sense as it'll take the pressure from Route 225 which follows the ELL between New Cross and Canada Water.
As Redbond confirms that the diversion to CP is only during the peaks, it appears they believe the normal 8tph service during off-peak and weekends is enough.

It's a 5 minutes walk between the stations (and not along the Old Kent Road)
Many people alighting at New Cross will be headed towards New Cross Gate anyway.

I received an email from TfL yesterday confirming a shuttle service during weekday peaks between Canada Water and Crystal Palace.

Why Canada Water? Will that not cause problems with trains detraining/loading all passengers there, causing delays to services behind?
(I'm guessing it's because there aren't enough trains to go further)

It's possible for trains to crossover to the southbound platform, which if it departs at the same time as the New Cross service is a five minute gap between the previous CP service and this one. This keeps the northbound platform open for through services.
I'm sure one of our LOROL drivers on here will keep us informed when accurate information comes through.

The TfL site says "A replacement bus service will run between New Cross, Surrey Quays and Canada Water. An enhanced London Overground service will operate between Crystal Palace and Canada Water during the peaks and an enhanced service will operate between Crystal Palace and Dalston Junction at all other times".
Nothing has been said yet but I really can't imagine terminating at Canada Water in the peak. That really would be too much hassle especially with it already going to be extra busy. I think they're just emphasising up to Canada Water for Jubilee Line interchange to London Bridge, which really is where all those extra passengers will want to be going.
Personally I'd say we will just continue in service and terminate at Dalston. The diagrams will have to be reworked though as New Cross and West Croydon services alternate.

Nothing has been said yet but I really can't imagine terminating at Canada Water in the peak. Surely what will happen is that the Overground services that normally run to New Cross will go to Crystal Palace instead (in the paths usually used by the London Bridge services) - this will indeed enhance the service between CPal and CWater

Real Train Times, which has the working timetable data has it down as a shuttle service to Canada Water which terminate at Platform 4.
During the 0800 - 0900 hour on Tuesday 26th August, trains leave CP at x07, x22, x37 and x52. However the 0852 is extended to Dalston Junction. These services are in addition to the regular 4tph to Highbury and Islington.
The return shuttles apparently start from P4 and leave in the 0800-0900 hour at x01, x16, x31, x46 with the last morning peak shuttle at 0931.

It does surprise me if the additional Crystal Palace services do not run all the way up To Dalston given the absence of New Cross Services that would have terminated there. I can't see the sense in it as there would be reduced service between CW and Dalston. There is no way a train will be turned at CW in peak rush without causing a delay if the lead driver has to change ends. Whether they opt to walk through the train or along the platform they will be held up by large numbers of passengers alighting and in spite of announcements I bet quite a few passengers would stop them to try to ask questions about why the train isn't continuing. To shut down, wait for passengers to clear and then set up cab would take at least 5 mins in this scenario so a 5 min interval is not sufficient given the train would need to have departed possibly 3 minutes after arrival to avoid delay to the down service. The only way this might be avoided is if the shuttle is operated with two drivers with the 'down' driver ready to key on as soon as the 'up' driver has keyed off. This would be the most likely scenario in my opinion if this shuttle is going to run as stated.

TfL and NR appear to have banged their heads together and finalised what is going on during the London Bridge works during the working week.
26-29th August.
Additional services:
4tph between Canada Water and Crystal Palace (diverted from New Cross) during the peaks, these will terminate at Platform 4 at ZCW. These shuttles are timetabled to take longer to arrive at Canada Water (20 mins from Forest Hill, instead of 11 for a through service). 2tph between Dalston Junction and Crystal Palace off-peak. No service at all on the New Cross branch, RRB's between New Cross and Canada Water.
This means 12tph will operate between New Cross Gate and Sydenham and 10tph off-peak with a reduction of service in the core north of Canada Water during the peaks and a loss of 2tph in the core off-peak.
