Passing here last week it would appear that it will not be long before the track for the sidings is installed and a connection made to the ELL between Surrey Quays and New Cross Gate Depot. Is a date known when this work will be complete?

Is a date known when this work will be complete? There is an outline of the project programme in the consultation information that TfL issued about a year ago. There is a plan of the siding layout with what looks like a single lead into the sidings from the northbound track from New Cross Gate towards Surrey Quays.

The work at Silwood is behind schedule which in turn is holding up works at the depot (Silwood needs to be operational to stable units so that alteration work can happen on the NXG berth roads. I don't know what the schedule has slipped to. Silwood was originally meant to be in use by Feb 2014.

There are several weekend closures coming up, and I wonder if any of our Overground drivers who contribute can add any reasons as to why these Saturday and Sunday Closures are ongoing. One would assume trackwork preparations are now getting urgent for reasons already commented on, both in this thread and the platforms work, etc. Any guidance from those in the know?

Is there a speed restriction on the northbound direction from NXG at Silwood my train went very slowly past the works.

Is there a speed restriction on the northbound direction from NXG at Silwood my train went very slowly past the works. Most likely you were approaching a red waiting for a train off Clapham Jn to clear?

Is there a speed restriction on the northbound direction from NXG at Silwood my train went very slowly past the works. Yes. There is an ESR of 20 mph in place due to the new high fencing on a curvature providing a very restricted sighting of the signal protecting Silwood Junction (which is mostly on red - at least until approach). The ESR terminates quite near the signal but by the time the rear of the train is through this permits sighting of the banner repeater for the next signal on the approach to Surrey Quays (whilst still going at 20). This signal is becoming notorious as it is on a downhill gradient, with occasional low adhesion and around the bend. Some drivers have been caught out by the Silwood signal coming off to yellow rather than green and then things getting a bit sticky if they've notched up - especially if they haven't taken note of the banner repeater. Even if you get a single yellow you have to take power initially to get over the crest of the gradient. The ESR helps in both respects. In time I think that we'll see a banner repeater introduced for the signal affected by the high fencing and a permanent limit of 30 introduced through to Surrey Quays to minimise TPWS/SPAD risks. This whole area (especially on the up) has increased risk for drivers with the changes. Once the connection has been made to Silwood then presumably the signal under the bridge at Canal Junction will have a theatre box and this signal too will often be held at danger (again this follows a steep downhill gradient with late sighting under the bridge off the flyover!). It's all a nice little welcome for us on to the ELL off the London Bridge Slow - the differences could hardly be more stark.

The signal in question has also been changed to 'approach control' too, so won't pull off until you're at least at the magnet. As latecomer says, that whole Silwood Triangle is one big trap and really needs to have something done about it.
With the ESR all trains are bunched up from Surrey Quays on the Up and most days it's impossible to see a green until at least Hoxton!

Track is now being laid at a fast rate, although it will still be at least March/April before the sidings are finished. It's still behind schedule.

Silwood sidings are very close to completion now. Driver walk-throughs of the sidings commence this week.
